There is no chest on the alchemy platform, just the key. Did you open the chest on the skill trainer's platform? There are 3 chests after the necromancer, but you mentioned not opening 2.
The order may have been changed or something added in DKS/FoV. Pre-patch there was also a bug that could leave certain containers empty.
