Very quick question...
Item Rarity "Elder" ... I can find no mention of this rarity level anywhere on the internet - I've searched thoroughly for the last hour, and also on this Forum - neither does the colour of the text of "Elder" rate a mention... it displays as purple text. It comes with 2 Charm Slots and 2 Enchantment slots.
My question is thus: Why do I have a rarity [Elder] not mentioned anywhere?
Anyone who can shed some light on my afternoon's puzzle, would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The elder class of equipment has been mentioned in the forum, but AFAIK not discussed a great deal (I may have missed some, though, avoiding topics with possible FoV spoilers). Presumably when Lancet updates his D2:ED All-Purpose Guide sometime after the US Xbox release of DKS, that will be one of the things added. Welcome to the forum.

Okay, well if I may pose another question then please...
Due to me being level 13, and my best drops (Legendary ones [had 2 of them drop thus far] currently containing 2 charm slots and 1 Enchantment slot and supposedly maxes out at 3, and based on what I've read, Legendary maxes at 3) ... given that Elder has more properties then Legendary at the same level, would I be correct in thinking that as the randomisation is based on level, I am better off waiting till level 30+ before obtaining Elder Rarity items? Only due to, aside from earrings, I only get weapons and armour that are a few levels above me, and I have read that the max level of a character is about 34-37 ... Er, the "should I wait till 30+ before obtaining Elder Rarity items?" is basiaclly the question.
Thank you for your time.

Is Elder a rarity added in FoV/DKS? In any case, anything contained in the rest of this post applies to ED. It probably applies to DKS as well, but I can't be 100% sure.
As for properties (I assume you mrean the random stat boosts in blue), I'm pretty sure they are based on the item's level, NOT yours (the item's level being the "Requires Level X" stat). The exception is random jewelry, which has no level req, and seems to base its possible buffs on your level. Random enchantments are based on your level, though, except if its a pre-determined item (a unique weapon, as my guide calls them).
So no, there's no reason to wait, unless you want to hope for it to have enchantments to be on it that usually require a Malachite Gem (assuming those are still limited in DKS).

In D2:ED I don't recall any Legendary quality equipment with 3 enchantment slots. Elder class equipment was added in FoV/DKS.
Random loot from chests or quest rewards in D2:ED did tend to be better at higher character levels, and a couple people recommended putting off learning Lockpick and then going back and opening all the locked chests before finishing up Broken Valley, etc. However, if you can get that far in the game without the loot, you probably don't need dramatic equipment upgrades. I opened most chests as I came to them, and didn't have any problems. There should be even less of an issue in DKS, with improvements to the loot from merchants, etc.
There is a limit to the range of possible stats on equipment, as well. If you are at level 13 and you are checking a chest where the random equipment requires about level 13, then you may get better stats if you wait until you are level 14 or 15, but at level 30 you are not going to get anything better than you would have at 15. There were a couple chests in D2:ED I left and came back for thinking that given the difficulty getting to them, they should be giving better loot than they offered in a couple reloads. However, being at a higher character level didn't help. Early in the game I left the chest under the church that contains random creature parts until I finished the quest to get the creature. In that case the chest did contain much better parts than when I first tried it, but not any better than other random parts I had found by then.
In D2:ED the maximum level was about 37, without taking advantage of a couple places where opponents can respawn. Including the FoV section of DKS, I think that brings the maximum up to the mid forties, at least.

Random loot is based on your level, but the actual buffs on weapons and armor arev based on the item's level. Or rather, the items you get are based on your level. You're not gonna find a basic level 1 short sword when you're level 30 unless it was generated back around level 1 (in which case everything, including buffs, are already set).
Enchantment slots are based on rarity. Legendary have 4 possible buffs and 1 enchantment, always.

After legendary, there's also 'Epic' and 'Unique' - but you won't find any of those at level 13...

There was a change in item availability from D2:ED to DKS (I don't know if FoV changed any loot in D2:ED). Both the character level when certain classes of equipment became available, and the level requirements on enchantments (which the random equipment generator uses) were lowered.

Oh and I did have unique and set items at level 13... If you had unique (rarity) items at level 13, then it was probably a bug. Are you sure? They're the ones with the dark-red names (one step higher than Epic) that have 3 instrinsic powers, 3 charm slots and 3 enchant slots. I didn't find any until FoV (around level 40) and even then, they were pretty rare. I think you might be confused with unique equippable quest items like the crystal skull - they're different to the unique (rarity) items.
