guys im not sure if my game is experiencing a bug or something, but i can't get access to the crows nest. im pretty sure i talked to every living thing in the entire city and i can't access the crows nest. can someone tell me the exact steps that will allow me to get there? thanks

If you still haven't defeated Ursula, then your two problems might be related.

To enter crow's nest:

maybe im retarded...but how do i get into the forbidden archives? i mean im in the prancing seahorse and im runnin around but i can't find any elven book at all. is it all the way upstairs? or near where ursula opens the portal? thanks in advance.

i didnt really get that last post. i still can't find anything. could someone tell me where exactly the elven book is plz? cause i seriously roamed the entire prancing seahorse and there is no book that i can pick up. one chest that i opened but it didnt have a book in it. and ursula's portal which is another mystery to me. oh and a lil box on a table that also didnt contain a book.

Its sitting right behind Ursula's portal, on the left side. I started a new game just to look, and was able to grab it before getting close enough to get sucked into Ursula's portal.

WHERE IS THE BLASTED TREE??

It's the big huge honking thing with glowing green veins in Mardaneus plaza. There are guards standing in front of a hole in the barrier. Walk through that.

i think i got this bug too

i beat ursula way back and did a bunch of side quests
just recently i reach the big tree

i talked to Casca and he said to look in the saehorse archives

i looked in all archives, there is no glowing book for me to take
like i said i think its a bug

i looked there but there is nothing
i cant pick any of that books

It's a blue book on top of the stack just to the left of the desk with the box on it, called simply 'The Elven Alphabet', and it should be very obvious (glowing).

However, once you read it it will disappear from your inventory - maybe that's what happened? If you read it before you get the tree quest, you'll be able to speak to the tree straight away. If you already have the tree quest when you read it, the quest will update to show 'You understand the Elven Alphabet'.

But if you can't find the book (and it's not already in your inventory or in the battle tower) and you still can't speak to the tree then it's definitely a bug.

EDIT: You must read the book (and therefore make it disappear from your inventory) before you can talk to the tree...

The book doesnt dissappear if you read it before you need to. If you try to, it just says that it would do you any good. After you have talked to Nericon in jiberish, then you read the book and it disappears.

Really? I did a test just before making my post - from before I had spoken to the tree, and I could read the book (and understand the tree first time I spoke to it). In fact I did it from a load just after I'd arrived in the city (by cheating with the code to get into the library).

Probably made a mistake though...

its like you guys said the book is in my iventory.
i got the book way before the quest and because of it it wasnt glowing at the time.

LOL! Happens to all of us some times. Just wait till you have to find some secret button. Though this time around they are easier to find then they were in ED, if youre not looking really hard for it... you wont find it ^_^

Don't feel bad - I once asked why they had removed the tower from FoV. I thought that because the waypoint shrine no longer showed it as a destination, it was no longer available (and I had already started re-doing the hall of echoes with all the best loot from my tower chest).

It never occured to me to just use the dragon stone...
