When I try to create a character, the character's face is generally dimmed and not that easy to see.
The same holds true for having conversations.

The main problem is I'm in the starting area and the lighting is terrible. Almost immediately off the airship thing, and I see a dark blob to the left or right, behind my character's head. If I turn it certain ways, the blob seems to envelop the character.

I ran up the hillside to the community, only to find the entire place is bathed in shadow. It's like there are no lights at all, save for some red looking things.

Moving about inside the first village square place, there was one area near a statue with lighting, while all around it was black. As I moved up the hill, the lighting seems to move with me, but everything beyond 20ft. stayed pitch black, and then I waded right into the black once more.

What exactly can be done to fix this? I tried fiddling with the settings, but that doesn't seem to help, beyond causing the game to slow down immensely.

For me the mistakes come from old graphic/direkt_x driver..

Which graphic card you have, and which driver version you use?
Have you installed the direct_x version from the dvd?
Installed physicX version from dvd?
Is the newest divinity 2 patch installed?

That is, what i can say. Hope it will help smile

Did the stuff from the DVD, got the latest Direct X, and the latest 1.03 patch was just installed.

The graphics card is NVidia, 6150 LE Geforce, 256mb I believe.

To be a bit more specific, you need the latest version of DirectX 9.0c (or at least the version included on the DVD). DirectX 10 and 11 are not fully backward compatible with 9, and 9 is not installed by default in Vista/7.

Try disabling HDR lighting (see HDR settings). That fixed this problem for a couple people, though one person did have an issue disabling HDR lighting from the options, and needed to edit a configuration file.

Try running the game as administrator and (in Vista/7) disabling desktop composition in the compatibility options. That has help some people with different graphics problems.
