Just a quick idea for the future - this is probably only possible on the PC, but if you have a section you just can't get past, you might try seeing if someone one else is willing to download a copy of your save file, get you past the trouble spot, then re-save and send you the new save file.
Glad to hear you got past the problem in this case, but that's just a thought. There's another jumping puzzle I had the hardest time getting past, later in the game than where you are. It's in Orobas Fjords, in the cavern of Barnabas the Necromancer. You have to jump down a shaft with lava on the bottom, and a travelling platform you are, I guess supposed to land on. Man, it took me like 30 tries to get past that because I kept jumping *past* the platform you're supposed to land on (it's not that I'd miss it because it was travelling - no, I can get the timing right, the problem was that your character seems to have a minimum jump distance that is too far lol).
