how does dual wielding work. i finially remembered how to put a second weapon in your off hand but i thought it was supposed to add to the power of your main weapon. Ive just tried it and instead of increasing my meele it reduced it. i havent put any points into dual wield but im sure that doesnt matter. does dks work different or am i remembering wrong. how does it work now?

Firstly, apparently the damage you see on your character sheet is the AVERAGE of both weapons - so you damage might have seemed to go down, but your actual damage is double what it shows...

But if you haven't put any points into dual wield yet, you're suffering a serious disadvantage on your off-hand weapon. Spend enough points and your off-hand will become a bonus instead of a penalty.

Finally, each +damage enchant you have (either magic or physical) will affect both weapons - this includes +damage enchants on the individual weapons. After you spend enough points in dual wield, you'll be more than doubling the effect of each +damage enchant that you have!

At the start of D2:ED, I was picking my off-hand weapon more for the bonuses it had than the actual damage, since those values tended to be pretty much the same after the penalty. Even with the penalty, hitting twice is better than once (one handed and sword and shield are certainly viable options, but duel wielding is more effective, especially after you can start adding enchantments). In D2:ED there was debate about whether two handed or duel wielding was more powerful; with the changes in DKS, it seems duel wielding easily wins.
