What the title says...

I think I have wasted my money buying Divinity II: Ego Draconis on STEAM where I can't even buy this.

Ego Draconis, Flames of Vengeance & Dragon Knight Saga - yes, very confusing as some were released in some countries but not others. Some were online only or you could get a boxed copy but again depended on which country you live in. Steam and retail versions vary as well.

Unfortunatley FOV wasn't released in the UK. However you can get a discount for Steam version of Dragon Knight Saga (which includes remastered Ego Draconis & FOV) if you already own the steam version of Ego Draconis. Side effect is you can't use your ED savegames in DKS however you can start a level 35 character in the FOV part. Alternative is to start the game over; the 'remastered' ED is better anyway and I liked the game enough to play it again.

Edit: DKS is £20.09 if you already own ED on steam. More or less the same price as the FOV add on would have been.

I've only ever played DKS, but if I'd invested the kind of hours I did in the ED part of DKS into the orignal ED, then I'd be pretty annoyed if I couldn't continue to FoV.

DKS is an awesome game, and I understand why the stand-alone FoV wasn't available everywhere on the XBox ('Live' file size limits), but you seem to be telling me you can't even get it on the PC?!

As far as I knew, FoV was available as a download for all versions of ED on the PC (even the Steam one, although you had to buy FoV outside of Steam). That's fine - after all the Dragon Age add-ons also had to be purchased outside of Steam.

But if you can't get a PC version to match your original ED, then I think my previous high opinion of Larian Studios might have been misguided... The PC (stand-alone) FoV definitely exists, and if some peole can't buy it legitamately then isn't that just an incentive to find a priated copy?

You can create a new level 35 character at the start of the FoV section of the game. I played through the original D2:ED on Xbox and would have continued with the same character if that was an option. However, I wanted to try a different character build anyway, as well as check out the remastered parts of D2:ED, so starting over wasn't a big deal.

FoV is available from various places on PC, just not from Steam. They decided just to carry DKS and give D2:ED owners a discount if they bought D2:ED through Steam.

Personally, if I can not buy something legitimately, then that is an incentive not to play the game. Same with demos; if a company doesn't release one, then obviously they don't want me to play it (until it is cheap enough to take a gamble on based on reviews).

I wasn't sure of this FOV digital download bought outside of Steam would work with Steam ED. I searched online for a while and basically came to the conclusion UK users couldn't buy it. So I just bought DKS on Steam with my discount.

If someone from Larian can confirm the downloadable FOV works with the Steam version it would clear this up. It says on their website "requires Ego Draconis DVD" which would imply it only works with boxed versions.

I was prettyy annoyed at first that I could not continue into FOV from my ED saves but it was worth playing through again.

I thought Larian updated their version of FoV to work with digital distributions of D2:ED? I don't know if that includes Steam, though.

Possibly but when I bought it at the end of last year it didn't appear so. I found a forum post (might have been this forum, don't know for sure) that said the PC version of FOV is only available in the USA / Canada. Europeans would have to purchase DKS. I took this as-is and went and bought DKS from Steam & got the 33% discount.

I just had a look around at a few UK games retailers and even the Xbox360 version is either not listed or is pre-order only. Not sure about the DLC as I don't own an Xbox.

When you think about it though, owners of Steam ED are actually getting a better deal if they buy DKS as the add-on will have been around the £20 mark. I'm not complaining it's just the whole thing seems a bit of a mess. I am not surprised some people are confused.

Hopefully in Larian's future projects they will get a publisher(s) that will distribute all versions in all major countries.

Certain distributors may limit where they will sell the digital distribution of FoV, but it should be available from somewhere else. The German version was the only one that had a DVD release of FoV.

The forum post may have been referring to the Xbox version (with no separate release of FoV, the only option to play the add-on is getting DKS). The only US/Canada exclusive I know of was the Xbox release pre-order bonuses.
