If you get the (digital download) add-on Flames of Vengeance, there is a patch to convert D2:ED+FoV to DKS.
If this is true in the US, it will probably be the route I'll try. Thanks for the info. It's not so much that games have multiple versions...I know devs have to get all the profit they can out of their existing work. What annoys me is that retailers are still selling the old version for $20+ to suckers like me. Coupled with a no-returns policy on software for a double whammy. I love how supposed anti-piracy measures like zero-return software polices and the utterly vile SecureROM only harm legitimate consumers.
Edit: I found the patch mentioned by Raze. Gonna try and find an inexpensive FOV.
