I found in some FAQ you can buy some awesome bow (Bow of Orobas) from Irwin in the Harbour of the Champions.

I just cannot find that guy (only someone named Ignaz who has a shop in there) in or around that harbour. So... where exactly can I find Irwin and the nice bow?

Champion Harbour is found in the northeastern corner of Orobas Fjords (the main river system, not the northern extension of the path that leads to High Hall). The area is covered in multiple anti-dragon barriers, and is difficult to miss. There's a huge building on the hillside above the harbour building itself.

The smith is inside the harbour building (door on the side of the building in front of the elevator platform); after you enter and turn right, keep going and you can find him standing near the door of a caged off room. At level 37 I am still using that bow (having equipped it as soon as I reached level 28).

The smith did not have that bow in D2:ED, and I don't know if FoV adds it or not.

Bow of Nericon is a nifty bow to get once you're on Sentinel Island. dunno how it compares to Mr. Swooshy...

but yes, the Bow of Orobas is an awesome bow, that once you have the 11k gold to buy it- DO IT!!

D2:ED + FoV does not have it. It seems to be DKS, then. Dread.

I missed the Bow of Nericon. That shop guy never had something useful I wanted to buy and on this playthrough (first time with a ranger) it is one of the few shops I simply forgot to check. Dread, do I have to play the rest of the game with these other crappy bows?
(I have the Bow of the Paladin right now but compared to the other's, it's not *that* awesome)

I'm sure you can find another nice bow searching all trader's stocks .... I played a long time with a Magical Bow (so NOT a special unique item (orange coloured name) bow) ... and disenchanted the low enchantments on it and give it higher enchantments myself via my enchanter Dreavan (Broken Valley) ... wink

If ED+FoV doesn't have Bow of Orobas, I'd imagine it doesn't have Bow of Nericon either. Both were shop items added in DKS.

And if you're calling it "Bow of the Paladin" in ED+FoV, I would assume that ED+FoV has the worst of both worlds: it doesn't add new bows added to shops and such (mainly Bow of Nericon and Bow of Orobas), while it also powers down the other "ultimate" bows in ED: Bow of Tiberius and Ultimate Good Bow/Bow of the Paladin.

Tiberius, in ED, had 3 enchantment slots, but now only two. Ultimate Good Bow had 3 also, and now only 2. (and it's worse than the Bow of the Damned One now, too!)

I'd suggest sticking with the Bow of Tiberius. You'll at least get a +1 to Ranger Strength out of it.

The lack of powerful bows is somewhat annoying. As mage, I could blast entire groups of those imps away without that much hassle- and the char only got much stronger in the following. The same went for two weapon fighting, you really could kill anything in your path around level 25.

It seems the ranger has gotten a really bad deal due to lack of better weapons here. Are the ressources available to editing/modding? Probably not, no?
This is somewhat of a downer, the ranger *is* significantly weaker than the mage, it seems. Meh...

Do you really need a superbow when you can shoot an explosive arrow every 5 seconds? A ranger is the most powerful class in the game.

If the ED+FoV patch modifies skills to their DKS versions, then Explosives Arrows was heavily nerfed. Earlier levels only do half the damage they used to, while later levels (including 15) do only 1/3 of their previous damage.

Besides, Explosive Arrows was so overpowered in ED that it doesn't make Ranger the strongest class, it just makes EA the strongest skill (by far). Since EA's damage is independent of your ranged damage (all it uses are your bow's crit rate, Death Blow crit, Butcher crit if enchanted, your H. Reflexes stat, and the enemy's ranged resistance). A level 1 bow from Farglow would do as much as a the Bow of Tiberius with Increase Damage and Mag. Damage 10. That means any character can use it equally well, whether a Ranger or not.

If they want to make this ED+FoV patch really shine, they need to rebalance ranger options in it, because otherwise you're stuck with Rangers being even crappier due to no decent, strong bows. Also, no bows with 3 enchant slots, period, at least in ED.

What's wrong with the Ranger class ? What's wrong with the ranger Skills and bows?

For me totally nothing !! I love it to use a bow and in DKS Explosive Arrows is still powerful enough ! Stun Arrows is also very good if you wish to have more time. Use Stun Arrows, then Ranger Suprize and after that shoot arrows wink And there're more strategies for the ranger, I'm sure you can find a nice/funny way to play as a ranger. But I never play a PURE class just because I like more variation in my playstyle, combine ranger skills with magic spells and warrior skills, etc ...
For example : use Stun Arrows first, then Rush Attack, use Firewall and make a short end of the enemies life with my Scorpion Sword ( by the way, great sword !!).

The thing is that if you wish to have the highest damage values for your bow you must search for a Magical bow (doing a high magical damage) when you upgrade your Intelligence mostly and choose Balanced bows when you put points into Dex & Int both and search for normal bows (ranged damage) when you only increase your Dex.

Well, the problem with Ranger is that in ED+FoV, the existing bows have their stats reduced (and Tiberius/Ultimate Good Bows lose an enchant slot, too), while the new, powerful bows aren't there either, at least in the ED portion. So you lack a decent bow for the second half of ED.

And Explosives Arrows is only a Ranger skill in name, really. The fact it's damage output is so completely separate from your actual ranged damage means any class can use it equally effectively, especially since the Bow equipment slot is separate from melee.
