That was a fun little game. I'm shocked how much I enjoyed it. It's incredibly low budget, yet the story is pretty nice and the combat works very well. The graphics and animations are pretty dated, though, so it's definitely not a game for graphics whores. I picked up a copy for under $10 after some credit, and I can definitely say it would've been worth up to $30. It has an upgrade tree for combat and such, but this isn't really a role-playing game at all, it's more of a straight action game. It's pretty linear, though it does have some paths you can take to find hidden chests and complete bonus quests.

This game looked like junk, but I'm glad I gave it a chance, as it turned out to be an enjoyable ride.

Anyways, has anyone else played this one?

My Favorite RPGs: Divinity franchise, Gothic franchise (including Arcania, so I think I'm alone...), Venetica, Risen, Two Worlds II, The Witcher, Sacred franchise, Fallout franchise, Mass Effect 1, Alpha Protocol, Planescape: Torment, Drakensang, KOTOR 1 & 2, etc.

I saw it in WalMart the other day and contemplated buying it, though I didn't because of the reason stated above with it being too linear. If I find it for a decent price, I would end up getting it, but I won't go outta my way. I do like that it has RPG elements, so I would assume it's like Dragon Age 2 or something. Action RPG or whatever genre that is.

I've heard of it, and thought it sounded vaguely interesting, but then forgot about it, honestly. Can't even remember why, now... What is the DRM system it uses?

I liked it. Then again, Haemimont (of Tropico fame) is a good developer.

Graphics are indeed a bit dated, but art and level design were decent... other than running, I thought animations were fine (certainly not worse than Divinity 2).

Combat was pretty fun and there was enough variety to keep things interesting - parries, blocks, ripostes, power attacks, etc.

Voice-over was competent, perhaps surprisingly so for a Eastern European developed budget game. I also liked the batner between the main characters.

Story showed promise, but the ending was pretty lame, imo.

I saw it at the Games Com 2010, and there it was ... thought about to be an RPG game (by the staff members I asked about it there).

I think they took a slightly different direction afterwards and put all RPG elements away or so.

The similarities between this and Hunted: The Demon's Forge are mind-boggling.

Similarities:

- Very light role-play elements

- Both linear, yet both have paths off to the side with treasure chests (loot), bonus quests, etc.

The structure, or level design, is so very similar. Another game that looks quite similar, The Cursed Crusade, releases later this year.

The Cursed Crusade however looks darker, gritter and more realistic. The combat looks better too. The First Templar and Hunted haven't exactly been well received by the majority but I think The Cursed Crusade will be.

What I saw of the game called "The Cursed Crusade" at the RPC : http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1061067866&postcount=10

I think that The Cursed Crusade will receive similarly mixed reviews.

The developer, Kylotonn Games, doesn't exactly have the best track record, so I won't hype it up as better than either Hunted: The Demon's Forge or The First Templar, as both are very enjoyable games, which is what I expect out of a game. However, I do expect to enjoy The Cursed Crusade. I like that the combat looks more weighty.

I'm not interested in Cursed Crusade, but am greatly looking forward to "Of Orcs and Men", another Euro RPG that is likely to fall of the radar.

Most of the best games do

But anyway I actually enjoyed the First Templar but I definatley think it could use un update or 2.
I noticed a few problems with the sound, but saving & reloading tends to fix it.
