Unless you haven't noticed already, most of FoV's main quest involves "random chance" stumpling upon the required items...
I haven't, actually, at least not to that extent. Any quest items needed are quite obviously pointed to, as are even non-quest items. One way or another, the correct direction to go in is made clear, even if it's just the name of a dungeon or building. That alone is enough direction.
