Max out "Know enemy" asap, so you can view enemy weaknesses. Some seemingly very powerful enemies like dragon riders sometimes have low spiritual resistance and they can be transmuted, making a fight with them trivial.
All Orcs are very weak to elemental damage, freeze them. A certain type of Lizardman is also weak to transmute.
Transmute is more a gimmick, but I like to play with my enemies a bit rather than just spam Hellspikes and own everything.
