you also have to take into account what armour your dragon is using some dargon armour focus' on attack while others on Defence. It's best to use either the Crystal Dragon Armour or the Plate Mail Armour for the escort mission as they both focus on defence rather than offence.
You should never stay still especialy when regenerating, as I said in the last post summoning your wyvern ally helps to draw away some fire.
