Tonto: Great game but a few bugs in it that break quests. Thought I'd start a list (with as little spoiling) as possible so you don't do harmless looking things that break quests
Don't enter Commander Ralphs room. He'll kick you out and lock the door breaking a quest. (a biggie too!)Deathwing, Sir Lawrence, Harglowe found a solution
Don't open any one of the four tombs in the holy weapon secret room. I had the misfortune of opening them up and it broke a very hard to complete quest. There is a book (Cursed Abbey) warning you to not open up the tombs but I didn't do that quest, the one where you find the book, til after I opened the tombs. If your stuck in this situation and want your holy weapon, there is a way to fix it Raze made a fix
Don't refuse to touch the imp's ball the first time he offers it. Raze made a fix
Don't use Buad's Tea to kill the Talking Tree, at least until *after* you've got Corinna's quest/Verdistis and the quest from the alchemis/Dark ForestRaze made a fix
Don't kill the big ork Smiruk's pals near the beginning of the game (the Slasher quest). And don't let your zombie pal kill them either if you've got him. Otherwise Smiruk won't have anyone to try Slasher on when you find it and the game will just hang after you give it to him. And identify all axes before giving one to Smiruk, otherwise he takes them all and uses them on his Orc victim. If it's the wrong one and he gets Slasher afterwards: hanging cutscene.
Summoning quest (Corinna/Verdistis): Don't use the fake wood from the merchant in Verdistis (Mpenzak), but get the real thing from the tree in the dark forest. Raze has a fix for the branch, thinks about fixing the whole summoning muddle <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
DO NOT keep the sword in the stone/Dark Forest because the released demon there kills everything running free if you do, you miss some side quests. The main plot (getting Bronthion) still works though.(If you really want it: Solve all Dark Forest quests first and then go to this area)
Don't get the note from Pedro in Rivertown sewers and expose Tingalf before you've got the note you find by following the trail from the cart (Tingalf/Marcus quest)Raze has a fix for the required items
Don't ring the gong and start the ritual without both pyramid teleporterstones (and all other stuff you want to take with you) in your inventory. You won't be able to get back to Rivellon once you're through the ritual. (You can find the stones in the Wastelands, but they're well hidden)Raze has a fix
At the very beginning of the game: Don't refuse to give George, the trader, his beloved plant Drudanae. Raze has added the zipped dialog file to the imp council member post
Ask Lanilor first, before taking this plant. The refusal results in no speech option for Mardaneus, after having found the murderer. And use all speech options with his murderer first, before killing him (credit to Maddux/Batman), specially info about drug deal, selling the drug to G., knowing him from Aleroth.
When you finally get to expose George's murderer, make sure that you tell the guy that you recognise him from Aleroth. I just made that mistake and now I cannot complete the George Murder quest.
You may not be able to complete the quest if Mardaneus joins the council before you kill the vampire/talk to him about it.
If you want the zombie in Aleroth as a combat helper, don't enter surface in between, he will die.
Finding an escort for the healers (Alix-quest) is time related, don't take too long for it - my XP = 10 days were too long (German version)
Don't enter the abandoned imp castle, before getting the 2nd warrior quest, you could miss the dragon heart, vital for the dragon armour, some gamers did not get the dragonheart then Raze made a fix
Don't use scorpions or freeze on boss enemies, specially the Demon of Lies or the game could be stuck (endgame bug); same goes for other boss enemies.
Josie then tends to throw the elven staff into the dark area Raze made a fix
Nericon Garden: The worshippers outside give you a book, don't throw it away, otherwise the statues won't talk Raze made a fix
Mpenzak quest: If you accept the quest burning down his wagon, do this at once, after one day someone else does it for you = quest failed.
Special wine for Corinna: If you refuse to burn Mpenzaks wagon, pickpocket the merchant having the wine. Giving him away to the guard standing at the burning wagon busts the wine quest. You may still find the bottle in his room at the Ducal Inn, but your quest log does not respond
Take (drag&drop into inventory)) important manuscripts, letters etc. with you, they could be vital for fulfilling a quest (Elrath, Gregor, Pedro, Vittorio)Raze has most lost/missed items in his fix
Don't throw the explosive barrel away (misc. inventory), you'll bust the 1st Mitox quest Kordoba and Raze fixed it
Don't pick up the book in Malcolm's house (the ledger from the Verdistis Merchant's Guild) until you get the quest from them first. I did this and the game kept insta-crashing on me as I tried to move away. After several tries, I didn't pick up the book and it hasn't crashed on me since. Raze has a fix if you've lost the book
Don't kill too many bees in the area where the Imp teleports you to. If you do, they will agro on you and you have to either reload a save or get the key by force and miss out on some nice XP.
The queen bee gets really ticked off if you kill more than a couple (one or two she annoyed), but gives you the key and tells you never to come back. How many kills she tolerates until she turns hostile is unknown Raze made a fix
Many players here had an unforgiving Ralph, he stayed in the locked room. As he was vital for the report having solved Duke and Elrath = these quests could not be solved. Ralph was supposed to hand over an invitation to the castle = otherwise no entry. (And if you were unlucky enough to lose your explosive barrel, given to you by Mitox, you had no alternative to ever get into the castle = main plot.) Raze has a fix, Deathwing, Sir Lawrence, Harglowe found a solution
Don't enter the Vampire Cave with a high level Dead Knigth, because, mine killed the Vampire before he finished is job and the game got jammed (bug when using freeze, summoning, scorpions etc on boss enemies)
Don't go after that little brat Janus too soon. I went from level 18 to 21 pretty quickly by just killing every orc on the map and completing General Alix's/Mitox quests. The enemies afterwards are very tough and you have to carry on without your teleport pyramids (for a while)
If you get sent to the City Watch in Verdistis to steal the magic lockpicks, Penumbra's dagger is also stealable even if you have not gotten the quest from Penumbra. I had the thing and sold it long before it got mentioned as being a quest item. It took a lot of backtracking to check every merchant to be able to buy it back. I was able to find it eventually, but some items fall out of inventory at certain merchants. Since that's an important item it might stay available forever, but it could also disappear if you're unlucky Raze has a fix
Cattle thief quest - don't talk to Dorian (in the poor sector) until you've gotten the cattle thief quest. If you enter his cellar and take the meat, he disappears
Use your Explosives Keg on the Orc supply train ASAP because I swear it will disappear out of your Inventory Kordoba and Raze made a fix
Consequences out of very low reputation: Started over as a "bad boy" (now rep -13) but no one wants to buy my stuff and I accidentally gave Tingalf away .. so I'm stuck with the loot ) Geoff thinks -65 and doesn't even want to talk with me (come back later..grrr)
If you have Mardaneus join the council of 7 before exposing Georges murderer, you break that quest.... (IMHO: Refusing to give George the Drudanae plant or not taking all speech options with the murderer before killing him breaks this quest)
If you tick off the 3rd infected citizen/poor quarters/Plague Quest off, you break that quest for finding him a cure quest.... (Fix: Pickpocket, kill)Pier has a duplicating cheat
If you have Dr Elath arrested before going into the Blue Boar Inn cellar to unlock the Dr's rented room your quest for that room remains unsolved...
Do not get weapons with both freeze and stun on them they cause major game lag and death animations for monsters to not work (passive Stun skill and Stun on a weapon). They are dead but they freeze in mid air thus no treasure drops... (bug mainly for boss enemies)
The key to Nericon's garden also unlocks the right hand gate to the graveyard. If you open the graveyard gate, you lose your key to the garden. Raze has a fix
Polymorph bug/Verdistis sewers: I'm stuck in the sewers and opened a chest which enchanted me into a rabbit. Another person was turned into a frog and was permanently stuck. If this is a feature and not a bug its a very annoying sounding one (Spiritual resistance 15 and more does not trigger this bug)
The only fix is to re-load; it does not wear off (maybe the next patch will fix this, since IIRC Polymorph was made perminent to work around another bug = Raze's remark).
While visiting Kratus house in Verdistis, I found the "Finnegan magic lockpick" and put them in my inventory. What happened next is that I didn't have them anymore when I met Finnegan for the first time and he asked me to look for them.
That bug was fixed in the 1.0032 patch. If you install the patch they should be put back in Kratus' desk. Check out what they do to your stats before you decide to give them back to Finnigan right away.
After the patch, they will no longer break if you pick a lock with them in your inventory, so you can keep them as long as you want. Raze has a fix
Anthrabert/Verdistis/Ducal Inn: It was mentioned casually but not explicitly: if you tell the guard in Verdistis that you suspect a merchant staying at the inn burned down a competitor's cart, then he arrests the merchant and that character disappears from the game. If you have not purchased/stolen/been rewarded a special bottle of wine from him by that point, you cannot complete the quest where the summoner teaches you a summoning skill.Raze has a fix
Pyramids and visiting the Castle: It's better to have at least one pyramid with you. some gamers had difficulties in getting them back later on in the game Raze has a fix
Dont leave Aleroth until you've done the healing stones quest, it fails.
If you kill the trolls before getting the quest for them, you can still complete quest. Or rather I could.
You can not get/complete the quest if you kill the trolls first. Though a couple people were able to, most could not. On the save side: Get the quest from Homer the farmer first (Raze's remark)
Do not kill Sir Patrick before getting dragon armour or you cannot complete the quest (try to refrain from killing important NSC's)
Do not get the black market quests from Marcus without taking the letter from the cave of the assassins cave, or the quest "To Rivertown breaks"
