I've played both DD and DKS and having done so there are a number of canonical inconsistencies between the 2, some can be explained by the passage of time within the world [such as the people of aleroth and thus rivelon mistakenly assuming goemoe's healing well 'was' the source and not simply drawing from it as well as the growth of the city since the time of the divine] however some are a bit...stickier...i haven't played beyond divinity so i don't know if it helps answer any of these...but the 'big' one is that dragon knights arnt mentioned 'once' in DD, and dragons are given 'very' passing notice when your working to reconstruct the dragon armor...you fight a few 'dragon riders' though i suspect the dragons these beasts are riding are no more sapient then the brainwashed husks damian uses to fill out his airforce in DKS

the lack of elves is answered in the game as well mentioning there exile or destruction by the black ring. i just thought id bring this up....if anyone has answers for the many inconsistencies please fill me in, if not...well ive said my peace...laters.

"The Source" is indeed - or at least it was - the source of all Healing that came from within Aleroth.

The Source is/was a concept that was partially abandoned during the game's development. It still exists as a kind of "game resource" (I mean the game as a program) within the game, but is unaccessible for the normal player.

The lack of Dragon Knights can be easily explained if you assume that the concept of so-called "Dragon Knights" simply did not exist during the development of the first game.

When you add anything in a sequel there are bound to be some inconsistencies (minor in this case, IMO).

The healers in Aleroth did not assume the well was the source. Starting a new game Joram mentions that the healers lost contact with the source (the shrine still being accessible, though inactive), and Goemoe makes a clear distinction between the source and the healing shrine.

It is not unreasonable that the dukedom of Ferol simply didn't have contact with dragon knights recently enough for them to be randomly brought up. The Orobas Fjords were also not mentioned in DD, but obviously the DD gameworld was not the entire planet, and at least some of the NPCs in the game would reasonably be expected to be familiar with other regions, especially ones relatively close like the fjords.

I would guess the dragon riders' mounts are more likely a sub-species of dragons or an unrelated species named for their appearance ('low flying lizard riders' doesn't sound nearly as impressive as 'dragon riders').

There was originally going to be a swamp in D2:ED (screenshot 588KB) as well as an area containing elves and dwarves (possibly even the same map as the swamp), but they got cut during development.

in divine divinity no, no they didnt, in divinity 2 however they 'do' assume that shrine is the 'source' over the long years between the 2 games they have forgotten how to connect to the 'true' source and instead depend on the faint trickle of its power that still slowly gathers in that ancient magic fountain. manifesting in healing 'orbs'

actually I think you'll find that Raze is right Joram does say that at the start of DD I started a new game of DD just the other day & what Raze says is right.

In FOV at least, there are few Orbs - and they are few (compared to earlier times) because the healers don't really know how to connect this thing once again.
