I almost assume that it would be more easier for them - just because of the level of complexity - to do one game first, and then the second.
There could be a problem of advertising it, though. "The same game, but now from a female perspective !" If everyone sees that it is basically the same game, they wouldn't buy it, I guess - i it was a full game, I mean. As an add-on ... perhaps.
I think another way would be to do the game so that only relatively few parts need to be exchanged like ... for example putting certain lists of choices and in-game commands/scripts into simple text files which could be be easily replaced. The positive on that would be that these "simple text files" would enable people to mod their own campaigns or other elements through "re-writing" these text files.
Don't know whether this is possible at all, though.
