Ego Draconis was pushed out the door unfinished because Larian ran out of money (and possibly also time). And they still managed to include a female PC from the get-go.
As far as I understand the situation at Larian, something truly disastrous must happen for the circumstances around Dragon Commander to become even worse than they had been during the development of Ego Draconis. Like a civil war breaking out in Belgium.
