Or the potions guy's? Oh, by the way, I've figured out how to get into Geoff's shop w/out him there! (must have both teleporter stones) You drop one stone outside the shop, then walk in with him, use your other stone (dont drop, just use), then, as soon as you're outside, sleep or run around a while, then walk up to the door and you'll find it's unlocked! (If that doesn't work, you can just be boring and drop a stone inside.)

You gotta be quick about this though. First time around it worked for me, and then I can't get back again, not even with shadows or anything. There's a bard right outside, and if you tell him to sing a song, the mage comes out to listen, and after the bard finishes he stays out. You can go round the back and loot everything, but you've got one chance only this way, I don't know any other way. And don't let him see you from the door, he'll call you back.

And you can use your stones to get into the back room of the potions shop. It takes some patience and skill, though. You need to have him close and lock the door. Then pick it and reopen it. Don't go through it. Drop your stone inside there, a little to the south. Then close the door. If you don't he will see you when you use your other stone to go in.

I could have been very happy not knowing that. "Game over, man! Game over!"

chase the mage out via spider statue - works with the armourer Gero also - though take care not to be near the outer entrances = if guards see you, they attack.

Only shop looting possible - even if he is far away: No possibility to get the chest in the back room. For the really evil in this game: Kill him when you're ready to hit the gong

hope you saved before trying to get into the back room. His opinion of you will drop, and prices go up, if he catches you.
You should be able to steal some things using telekinesis (I maxed this skill with bought spell books). I don't know if this will reach the spell book, though. Wizard's Sight lets you see through the roof of a house so you can use telekinesis from outside (I have this at level 2, also bought).

The magic orb does not do anything, it is just there for looks.
I killed Kistandalius to check out the orb (after saving, of course). My god, did he drop a lot of stuff, including a large charm - combined weight of swords, axes and armour was almost 4000. I killed him again, but he didn't drop nearly as much. He sells charms and spell books, though, so he is more valuable alive then dead.

If you have a mage character, you may be able to use the special move to swap places with him when you are outside. The second time I tried to kill him he ran away and went behind the shop. I tried to enter the back room, but he still teleported me out, so I had to go finish the job. From other's comments, most merchants do nothing if a mage swaps them out of their shop and robs them blind.
