I'm a bit confused with the way weapon damage is calculated.
Up to now, I hadn't invested in weapon expertise so I have 1 point in all type of weapon expertise.
I have a full Defender of Aleroth set, with a character heavily geared into intelligence.

When I single wield the mace of Aleroth, my damage is listed as 24-30 + (58-61).
When I dual wield with a fairly crappy secondary weapon, I have 7-9 + (36-45)
When I use mace + blood echelin shield, I get 24-29 + (100-103)

How is it the damage goes so insanely high with Sword and shield?
I play the game on PC, with the latest patch installed.

When duel wielding the average damage is listed, though I'm not sure why the melee damage drops by more than half.

Someone else noticed a magic damage bonus with sword and shield: Weapon Configuration Damage ?

You might need to email support@larian.com (with a description and maybe a link to this topic) to find out if this is a bug or an unlisted bonus with the shield or skill.

Ooops how rude of me, I didn't say Hi!

I definitely get a huge damage bonus when I wear shield compared to when I have only the 1h weapon in hand. From what I've looked into, I think it basically considers the shield as a second weapon and therefore doubles my +magic damage bonus (I have +35 magic damage from various enchantments, modified by intelligence that would explain the roughly 40 points of difference in magic damage.

But that does not seem to be the way it should work from the sword and shield description. So I suppose this is a bug.

DKS did change the way magic damage bonuses were handled compared to the original release of D2:ED, without going into details in the skill descriptions. When duel wielding, for example, the magic damage bonuses from each weapon are applied to spells (including each missile in a Magic missile cast), ignoring the off-hand weapon penalty. There may be a similar bonus with shields.

If you put points on dual wielding it reduces the penalty you get on the second weapon

Hi there,
I just noticed the same thing.
Found a +75 magic damage sword, and when i equip it with my shield, it shows nearly 300 magic damage (instead of 120 without the shield).
Seems like Sigwald said, that the magic damage enchantment is counted twice.
The same thing doesn't occur with normal damage enchantment.
I guess it's a bug, or I'm missing something...
It felt so abused at this moment of the game that i sold it back !!! :-(

Did you remove the enchantment before you sold the sword back, if you didn't already have the formula? You may not want to use it now, but if you have the formula you at least have the option of doing so later.

Even in the original release of D2:ED many people thought intelligence based warriors were better due to the availability of balanced and magic weapons and a better stat bonus to damage (that's part of the reason I went with a strength based warrior). In DKS the damage bonus from intelligence was made equal to strength and dexterity, but the other changes make magic damage and enchantments much more effective for warriors and mages (the best bows do mostly conventional damage so rangers are best served with a high dexterity, though the magic damage enchantment was always my second choice if a bow had more than one slot).
