Skyrim looks great on all screens and from PAX/Tokyo gameshow gameplay videos I've seen.
I don't trust leaked builds played by unskilled players. And either way, it's foolish to judge such a huge game that will take hundreds of hours to finish, by a scripted intro and a couple of hours of gameplay.

Same as virumor, I watched a few gameshow gameplay trailers, and graphics were awesome.

I like all colours if combined in a good way to create an appropriate atmosphere ... In principle this ain't bad. It's only that I womn't buy it nowadays anymore. The other thing I don't like that much is when there's a trend of it - like it is now - that EVERYTHING HAS to look so - because "everyone" believes it's just cool. as I wrote t in the RPGWatch Forum : It appeals to me much more, when it is outside of any trend. Because then , I have the feeling of some people following an unique artistic vision - and not following something simply because it's hip. Dark & gritty games during a trend that says : "Everything must be colourful & lighthearted !" - I would most certainly buy it, becaue it wouzld be "different" then. And vice versa. But on the other hand I'm also more pickier than I once was. I just don't buuy anything anmore, regardless. Nowadays, I only buy what I think will be fun in my eyes.

Now I certainly believe you're very difficult to be "pleased" ... but in some way I can follow your "thoughts" ... just follow and buy games that are "hip" ... that's not following your OWN intuition/feeling etc ... Mostly the games I like are NOT that of the big "group of people" ... but I can imagine a hyped rpg like Skyrim you, alrik, wouldn't buy it, just because of that, right ? I bought Oblivion a few years ago (starting playing on xbox360), but first: * in some way the RPG-elements can't hold my attention for long (and another rpg take my time , see the second reason! ) * and second: I bought an Xbox because I was annoyed to upgrade my pc again and again just for playing a new game and so I bought that Xbox in first place for a special reason: playing Divinity II !! I think if I try Oblivion again and give it a second change, I can enjoy it, but the level-up system isn't that nice. But this feature will be different in Skyrim and that's the reason I wish to give Skyrim a change. Also I love mountains and snow & the nordic style of the game ! ... maybe stupid reasons to buy a game I have no HIGH expectations about Skyrim ... just play and see if I like it. If not, sell it to a game store or player can't be a real problem . Today I read something about Risen 2 deep Waters in a magazine (I played Risen for some time), but I don't love Pirates & guns in a (rpg) game ! So I say NO to that upcoming game ! Just an example. Risen 2 is NO fun for me, I simply "feel" it, but Skyrim will be fun for me ... just to explore the world of Skyrim with snow and mountains and dark dungeons ... talk with npc's and doing quests ... and I wil be pleased, I know And in the most worst case, if the outcome of Skyrim really feels bad for me, I can always play again and again Divinity II !

Risen 2 looks incredible. The DLC for Two Worlds II has prepared me for its epic arrival.
My Favorite RPGs: Divinity franchise, Gothic franchise (including Arcania, so I think I'm alone...), Venetica, Risen, Two Worlds II, The Witcher, Sacred franchise, Fallout franchise, Mass Effect 1, Alpha Protocol, Planescape: Torment, Drakensang, KOTOR 1 & 2, etc.

So far risen 2 can't hold my attention and Two world II I have, but not the DLC ... I've only played a litle bit of TW II ... DKS drink & eat my game time I look today into Skyrim and it look nice, really not bad and also NOT dark (so far) ... Very nice general soundtrack it has and in my opinion comparing it with the Oblivion "HUD" a nice improvement . Play it on Xbox and install it on HDD. The Graphics look nice and are of the same quality as DKS is (or even better, but that's, I think, is normal because of a newer release?), but with other pallet of colours because it's Skyrim atmosphere, of course But to be clearly : I love the DKS graphics and I love Skyrim graphics. Both are different RPG's, both I can play for a different personal reason. But the thing is : I already know I love DKS and it wins my RPG heart already & the reasons are the great RPG-elements! Now it's up to my to play Skyrim and discover Tamriel to see what it does with my RPG haert ... can the Skyrim RPg-elements hold my attention for years? I'm curious too !

I've been playing Skyrim for about 10 hours now and the game is amazing. Better than Oblivion in every way.

I have to eat some humble pie and admit that this game is pretty stunning. I didn't care for Oblivion, but the art direction and just overall atmosphere of Skyrim is something else. The opening was pretty average to me, but it's really nice once it lets you out in the open. Despite the graphics not being impressive on a technical scale, it is still a beautiful game and has some really nice water.

I'm impressed how alive the world feels. It reminds me a lot of Gothic. Even the NPC conversations are great and make sense, it's a far cry from the terrible Radiant AI from Oblivion.
Even gameplay can be pretty brutal if you step in the wrong place.
It's almost a shame this game is so good, since Arkham City is coming out this week and I hear that is also a brilliant game. Not to mention, Saints Row 3.

So far I've played for about 20 hours Skyrim and it's amazing world ! The world feels indeed alive ! Also for me Skyrim is in many ways better than Oblivion ... and as I espected, but even more amazing THAN I espected(!), I love it to walk in the mountains by day and by night ... it's a fantastic feeling to look around standing on a high mountain path or whatever you like ... .. you really must TRY this: just standing on such a nice place for some time and doing nothing but just standing there ... after awhile you will see Bethesda make some sort of "screensaver" : the whole world around your hero starts to turn around, 360 degrees & further on around and around !! It's freaking awesome

I like watching the "northern lights". ![[Linked Image]](http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/9393/tesv2011111522020636.png) There's even some really funny quests in the game, that remind me of Divinity 2

I know this is an old topic, I am new on the site as well as to both Divinity games and the Elder scrolls games. I feel my opinion needs to be voiced even if no one reads it. First Divinity is one of the best fantasy rpgs I've ever played 1) its hard as hell and really makes you work for those experience points. 2) It has taught me the value of saving my game every 5 seconds lol. 3) great story and great humor so far.
Now As for Skyrim, People have been telling me for months before Skyrim even came out it was going to be one of the best rpgs. After getting the game and playing the openning myself I am gravely disappointed and feel like I wasted my money. I'll explain my reasons for disliking it, the graphics are awesome, the story sounds interesting, the game play is horrible for a fantasy style rpg, fantasy rpgs aren't meant to be played from a first person shooter point of view. This game is too much like fallout's style of game play, don't get me wrong I love the fallout series, the style works for fallout, but does not work here.
Compared to Divinity games Skyrim so far lacks the pull of interest that Divinity has on me. I mean after you escape the town the dragon attacks there's hardly anything to kill or fight. In ego draconis, right out side the village walls you get attacked by hordes of goblins that can over welm you. I'm playing both the original Ego Draconis and the remastered one, and I have to say I'm saddened with how easy the remastered version has become. The first thing I noticed was the lack of the boars outside the gate, and fewer goblins. I just don't feel over welmed anymore. A few things are better in the remastered version, but I think what I liked most about the original was how hard it was to advance in the game like it literally forces you to do side quests first to gain level. I had to ninja my way into Lovis's tower the first time I played cause those dam skeletons kept killing me over and over, I felt so happy when I finally pulled it off and beat the basterds. So in this sense Larian studios did something good, I like the difficulty it makes me want to keep playing. With Skyrim I don't feel that at all in the beginning, the only thing thats attacked me was two wolves, thats not satisfying enough for me. If your gonna send wolves at me send a blood pack of like 7 make me work my brain to survive.
I know I should give Skyrim some more time on my part but I do believe when compared to something like Divinity for a fantasy rpg its gets a 5 on a scale of 1-10 for gameplay where as Divinity gets a 10, I mean Divinity has mastered how to use a sword, magic and a bow in unison during combat. If I want to use a bow in Skyrim I have to pause the game and go into my inventory just to use it which is kind of annoying.
So yeah Skyrim is bad as a fantasy rpg with gameplay, but if you like that style its all yours to play.

I don't like the first person view in RPGs, either (though didn't mind it in Wizardry 8, and in general it can be ok in adventure games). Isn't there a third person view in Skyrim, though? I have not played it (no demo), but the trailer shows some third person sequences. Boars, ducks and a number of chickens were removed in DKS for performance reasons, though I never had any issues with the Xbox version of D2:ED. Quest experience points were adjusted in DKS to make it easier to level at the start of the game, generally allowing an extra level or two by the time the starting section of Broken Valley was complete. Welcome to the forum.

I want to say this: I like Skyrim AND I like Divinity II ! Both are on their own way addictive and fun to play ! But I can't compare them with eachother because the differences are big ... and this difference I like it ! Skyrim has for sure also a third person view Raze ... so can't follow Kakachi in his/her comments about this :p I like it to switch often to both views ... and it's very simple to switch between 2 builds without pause the game in battle (please, read the Manual! ) After all I think that the Divinity games win my heart for always ! But can't say this for Skyrim yet (Oblivion can't hold my attention for long), so I first play furter on . If I ever end Skyrim (it's a big world full of content), I can say more. So far, both RPG's are fantastic to enjoy and have fun with !

@Kakachi
Try playing DKS on hard mode or nightmare difficulty for some of the challenge. As for Skyrim, I've heard many things about it. Disappointed is one word I hear thrown around a lot and that's due to the combat and lackluster story and that's not mentioning the game breaking bugs. After watching a few gameplay videos, I still see that it's not the game for me. The combat still looks very slow, unrewarding and unresponsive. I'll stick with Dark Souls.

Combat slow? Not true. Unrewarding? I can't say that in my case, but I can imagine that gamers find combat unrewarding in Skyrim. I never go buying or not buying a game looking at gameplay video's, but that's me Disappointed game? Maybe many gamers, already waiting for years to buy Skyrim, are now disappointed because they espected too much ? Or just hard to be pleased? Okay, to be honest, I'm not so hard to be pleased with a game, especially a rpg ! I'm a rpg player by heart, not to forget I like strategy in games also (more and more). I heart gamers who find Skyrim too easy. I play on "novice"(most easy mode) and find it still good and I make it myself more difficult because I don't boost too much and take many "perks" in reserve (kind of a "handicap" for my heroďn). I find the combat (melee, ranged and magic!) fun to play. The same for Divinity II, but in another way give both rpg's fun with the combat. In Skyrim I love the Alchemy system and many more of the "roleplaying" features like smithing, enchanting, cooking, sleep/rest/wait ... exploration(!), loot, trading, solving quests(some quests are repetitive, that's true!), ... and last but NOT least: Freedom, so great !!

THE reason I start to play again DKS while my second hero in Skyrim is only level 12 ... ... the reason is that the HUMOUR is WAY much BETTER in DKS and I like that !! Not that Skyrim has no humour, but it's different! In some way Skyrim is for me too serious ... Oblivion .. O no, can't say that I ever really enjoyed that game ! And the among of loot in Skyrim is enormous, but for me quality is way much important than the quantity of loot in Skyrim ... hope I say it clearly? DKS has less loot, but more quality. But DKS rocks, DD rocks, but Skyrim ... blocking my way of fun in some way ... despite I like Skyrim way much more than Oblivion, Bedestha has not succeed in taking my RPG-heart for Skyrim. Sorry, but it's the real thrilling adventure of making a Gem of a RPG Game Larian Studios really know HOW to take the heart-winning cockail of rpg-ingredients and put them in the right dimension to create all that is in one beautiful Universe !! I believe, if I'm old (above 60 years) ... I'm still playing the games ... Joram xx

Glad to know that you're back on our side. There's only one RPG to rule them all and that's Divine Divinity!
