I wonder what people think about that. I realize that random stats makes the game more interesting to play again, but then on the other side we all just save/load untill we get the best stats for an item. If ones computer isn't that fast that can take a lot of time.

There is always hope

I said yes.

We tend to over-analize the finding of great items when in fact many of the really good ( read: Many but not all) items are not random at all, only the stats for them are. And some people like different effects. Some won't ever use some things and will sell them. I never reloaded for anything in my first game and it was more fun than my second game, in my opinion, since it was less about finding uber items and more about the game itself. I liked not knowing what an item that wasn't IDed might be. It was like opening a present. But that is just me.

I could have been very happy not knowing that. "Game over, man! Game over!"

Yes . It's more fun to reload 20-30 times, throw a fit if I saved the bad one and not the good one...
It adds to suspense...

I don't really like random stats. IMO there are better ways get variations / re-play value. On the other hand, equipment with a particular strength or weakness might allow you to find some effective technique that you would not have tried otherwise. The range of variation could certainly be narrowed for some items, so you could not end up with really crappy dragon armour, etc.

I'd like to see more configuration in the way of removable charms for equipment.

A mage/blacksmith shop where you could purchase custom equipment (or upgrade your current stuff to some extent) would work also. More powerful effects could require finding/buying the spell/alchemical ingredients elsewhere, in some dangerous location.

In either case, the game could vary the relative abundance of different charms/ingredients, so slightly different strategies would have to be used in different games.

I think most of the items should indeed be random generation, but stuff like the Dragon Armour set and the Holy Items are far TOO random. It is beyond ridiculus that you can go to all the effort of doing the Holy Item quest and come out with a useless piece of junk.

It is also very silly that you can combine the Dragon Armour and the Heart Of The Dragon to end up with a far worse set of armour than your original Dragon Armour. All adding the Heart does is restat the item, it doesn't boost it at all.

So major items really need to be either fixed or very close to it, with everything else generated randomly.

I said no, bt i mean yes. The stats should be random, but there should be limits so thet things can't be very bad, very good neither. My system should look like this:
Let's say we have the holy sword. It should have 15 AP(ability points). And then the game randomly divides the AP. (like 4 AP to frost(4), 5 AP to spiritual dam(5), 3 AP to strength [here the AP=stat*2] which makes +6str and some more 4 to resistance to lightning [here AP=res*4 or res*5]. I hope you understand what i mean, the weapons should be equal but NOT ALWAYS HAVING THE SAME ABILITIES.

If you are in a sticky situation then the best tactic is to get out of it.

an option for most? I put no but would of went for most random if it was there. I think random items are great to a point but there should be some items that have set stats. what if my warrior is very unlucky and everythign he gets is crap I want at least one item to be set and descent stat so I don't have to do the save/reload over and over just to get one descent piece of equipment. (my computer's 6 sided dice roll only goes up to three I think so at best I get average )
