Hello I'm new and I made an account just now because I'll be playing Divine Divinity non-stop until I finish it laugh

Anyways. I'm having a problem understanding how the "Elven Sight" skill works. It's either a bug or a misunderstanding think

[Linked Image]

So I decided to put a point on the "Elven Sight" skill within the catacombs. I wanted to see the difference this skill will make when I apply the point, but after doing so, it did nothing. I expected the fog surrounding my character(as the picture shows) to decrease. It did not!

Next I thought, maybe it does not remove the fog around you, but it allows you to see an enemy further away from you in that fog...

So the question is: By applying points on "Elven Sight" or "Ranger Sight", do they cause the fog/shadow that surrounds your character to decrease, or does applying points to those skills allow you to see enemies from further away without decreasing that shadowy fog surrounding you?

I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you claphands

I'm loving DD, I even stopping playing Reckoning and Skyrim for this xD This game is worth it, lol.

As you explore in new areas, a higher sight range should clear more of the black fog-of-war around your character, as well as let you see opponents farther away. The actual lighting around your character is not effected (switch the darkness setting in the graphics options to 50 to increase the size of the light radius a bit).

I put a couple points into Elven Sight (which is much more effective than Ranger Sight), but eventually started avoiding equipment with sight bonuses, so my sight range didn't get too much larger than the screen size (I found the fog-of-war on the screen/map handy to keep track of areas I had not explored yet).

From the Locus Inn's DD info pages;
Quote
Elven Sight (Passive)
You can see further and thus target and attack your enemies from afar.

Level 1 Increase sight range with 2. Required level is 1.
Level 2 Increase sight range with 4. Required level is 5.
Level 3 Increase sight range with 8. Required level is 9.
Level 4 Increase sight range with 10. Required level is 13.
Level 5 Increase sight range with 12. Required level is 17.

Your base sight range is 18, so (with any equipment bonuses you may have), an increase of 2 wouldn't make a huge difference, but should certainly be noticeable. You may need to move to start clearing the increased radius after you learn a skill level or equip something with a sight bonus.

I appreciate your reply, Raze wink

Yes, that's what I meant, the light effect around my character. So the light effect doesn't increase but I'll be able to see enemies further away outside of the light effect, that's awesome. I'll try changing the light radius as you said.

The fog of war effect is the pure black unexplored areas of the screen, right? So the Elven Sight skill affects the fog of war? That's good to know, because I won't increase it as much, to keep track of exploration just as you said.

I feel much better knowing my game isn't bugged. Thank for your reply!

Yes, by 'fog of war' I meant the black cover over unexplored areas of the screen and map.
