Hello I'm new and I made an account just now because I'll be playing Divine Divinity non-stop until I finish it

Anyways. I'm having a problem understanding how the "Elven Sight" skill works. It's either a bug or a misunderstanding

So I decided to put a point on the "Elven Sight" skill within the catacombs. I wanted to see the difference this skill will make when I apply the point, but after doing so, it did nothing. I expected the fog surrounding my character(as the picture shows) to decrease. It did not!
Next I thought, maybe it does not remove the fog around you, but it allows you to see an enemy further away from you in that fog...
So the question is: By applying points on "Elven Sight" or "Ranger Sight", do they cause the fog/shadow that surrounds your character to decrease, or does applying points to those skills allow you to see enemies from further away without decreasing that shadowy fog surrounding you?
I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you
I'm loving DD, I even stopping playing Reckoning and Skyrim for this xD This game is worth it, lol.
