If you have not done so, you might want to fly around a bit to get the hang of dragon form before proceeding out of the starting area. When you get the dragon form permanently there is another dragon section you need to complete to transform back to human form. That battle isn't terribly hard, but it is easier to get a feel for flight in the first dream sequence than when there are a bunch of hostile opponents around.
