If the zombie dude that you are talking about is from the catacombs, you can't get him back. The statue mentions that he will be your protector as long as you remain in the catacombs. Once you leave, his service is done and he is allowed that eternal rest that he's been waiting for. I liked him. He reminded me of the rock golem that you could summon in the original Diablo.
