I contact a lot of different people in german support...but i will not call the names here. that would not be fair i think.

After i reinstalled the game a secound time, i deleted everithing i found on the computer from divinity 2 (including the savegames) and start a fully new game. Than the problem with the Skillpoints and Skills was gone, but the crash was still there. The game runs fine, but crashes everytime at the "canyonendvideo" and also sometimes when i try to start a new game.

actual i have only this one and great problem with the "videocrash".

What's the exact ( ! ) name of your DVD drive you use the game in ?

And - have you turned off Virus-Scanners during play ?

Twg, did you do what ForkTong suggested about Launching an Analysis?

Do you see the movies showing what the skills do when you click on a skill? Or is it just blank?

In device manager you can see the type of DVD drive you have. Right click "my computer" go to "properties", "hardware" (tab) finally "Device Manager" (button).

Who was the company that looked at your saved game file. It can mean a lot if it was a good company that says your saved file is corrupted.

And lets rule out your virus scanner, play Divinity 2 with it turned off. It might be using heuristics (trying to detect a possible computer virus infection) which can be forcing your game to close. This is why so many people have been suggesting this.

You don't need to be online when playing Divinity 2, you can disconnect your computer from the internet.

Ok, there are News...bad news for me, maybe good news to locate the Error.

after you last Post LightningLockey i load the game again and try to click on a skill to check if there is a movie playing, but the game only crashes and so i load an older Savegame to try this and...it also crashes and than i load after two more tries with older Savegames i loadet the oldest savegame and it is also corupted - the Skillerror is back and in everi existing savegame. I dont understand that because i could play the game bevore without this problem and now every Savegame is killed....

it seems i will never play divinity 2...

I will answer the other questions later, iam at work.

Long shot, but are you installing/running the game with a user account that doesn't have admin privileges?

Any other game (a lot of games, newer and older) running fine and i will never change a running system for only one game.

And i checked my hardware with the programs, they passed the tests without any error.
And i reinstalled Windowsmediaplayer 11 to be sure to have the newest version, but the game crashes.

v1ctor didn't mean installing Windows Vista or 7. He meant to reinstall windows xp since it is sounding more and more like a problem related to windows.

Do any of your other games have .wmv files in there directories?

Lets wait and see if SecuRom gets back to you before reinstalling Windows XP.

No, they usually use .bik or they are in Filearchives collected.

You don't need to reinstall your system. You can install clean Xp into Virtual Machine or use some old HDD drive. It is always nice to locate the problem: hardware- or software-related.

Ok, again some news:
I install Microsoft Virtual Machine and install a clean XP and ONLY Divinity 2, Supportprogramms from CD and the Divinity 2 patch 1.1 and try to start the game an got this message:
"Ein benötigtes Sicherheitsmodul kann nicht aktiviert werden. Dieses Programm kann nicht gestartet werden (3000)."
"A needet securityprogramm can´t be startet. This one can´t be startet (3000)."

And as another info on securom Website i found this:
"SecuROM hat festgestellt, dass das Debugging Tool "SoftICE" läuft."
Securom notized a debuggingtool named "SoftICE" is running."

But i dont have such program running, not installed and not in my ram.

Please can anybody help me? Only one Day left. After my holydays i dont need the game anymore!

It seems SecuRom is detecting windows XP being Virtually installed and thinks your pirating the game.

From the wiki:
SoftICE is a kernel mode debugger for Microsoft Windows. Crucially, it is designed to run underneath Windows such that the operating system is unaware of its presence. Unlike an application debugger, SoftICE is capable of suspending all operations in Windows when instructed. For driver debugging this is critical due to how hardware is accessed and the kernel of the operating system functions. Because of its low-level capabilities, SoftICE is also popular as a software cracking tool.

My guess is this is used in a virtual installation of Windows and SecuRom won't allow the game to be played in this environment as it is used to pirate software.

As for playing the game in a 24 hour period... not going to happen it is too huge to get done in a day.

Best bet is to reinstall windows XP from scratch with SP3 re-installed. The problem with that is reinstalling all your stuff and backing up all files. He's a grueling few hour project. frown

let me try to analysis. correct me if i am wrong

1) you install divinity 2 without problem or error
2) you load up the game and play without error, until you reach the point where the movie of dragon played. the error happened before the movie was played, not after.
3) you try to play that exact movie under windows, and it loaded without problem
4) you tried many solutions from that point, including reinstalling the game. everytime you reinstall, you use the same savegame to test, and crash at the same point
5) you tried out a new game, and crashed at the same location
6) somehow your other in-game movies started to fail as well. including the skill mini movies.

there can be errors in three ways
1) your savegame, which is unlikely because you have tried starting over and crash at the same location
2) the software and operating system, configuration and such, which is to be confirmed
3) your hardware, compatibility issues

Actually in his original post (was in German but google translated) he always had problems when ever a video will play. From everything we've gone threw, I'm thinking #2 is the problem. Possibly a repair-install will work and reapplying all the updates.

Problem is the need to back the computer up as if he's gonna format because repair installs, especially if virus infected, can go bad to the point of never getting to load the OS again. Basically it is a few hour process, if the repair fails, then we are talking about formatting and reinstalling everything again. Which of course can be a several day headache if there is a lot of software that was installed.

If there was hardware incompatibility, he wouldn't have been able to play at all.

I know this is a really old thread, but I just thought I might add my fix. I had the same problem (except my skill videos worked fine, the only one that didn't was the Talana dragon one). All I had to do was rename the original Dreamscene_End.wmv, copy a video that did work, and then rename it to Dreamscene_End.wmv. I used a kill video for the bow attack that stuns, and it worked perfectly. I recommend watching the original video before you rename it, since you're not going to see it in-game.
