If I have the poison weapon skill, do I need to bother with poison damage or poison arrows? How are they different? Also, before the GOG fixes, wasn't there a bug where if you poisoned a bow the poison damaged the opponent even if you missed the target? has this been fixed in the GOG version? Thanks

Edit - if I do use the poison weapon skill, can I remove the poison from the weapon or make it back to a normal weapon, or do I have to wait till it runs out?

No, if you use Poison Weapon you probably don't need the passive Poison Damage (for melee attacks) or Poison Arrows. Poison Arrows do not require poison potions, just mana, but from what I have read, that spell is not as effective as Poison Weapon.

A poisoned arrow which hits the target can have the poison effect applied even if the arrow doesn't do physical damage. I tried clearing the orcs around Aleroth with a poisoned sword and did not notice any poison hits without physical damage (maybe the spin attack could poison with a miss, but I didn't go far enough south to hit large enough groups to be able to test that).

I don't think you can un-poison a weapon before the poison charges run out.

thanks, Raze
do you think the arrows were meant to poison the target even if the arrow itself doesn't do any damage by design? that seems broken

I don't know. Theoretically you could have a scratch or minor puncture deliver poison without being serious enough to loose any hit points. The design is probably just a case of the poison damage being calculated separately from the physical damage; maybe they didn't think to put in a check to see if the physical damage was reduced to zero, or during play testing didn't consider it over-powered, so didn't figure a check was needed.

one last thing - if the arrow completely misses does the poison have any effect? Thanks again, Raze

No, a complete miss will not poison the target.

Yes, I've also noticed, you can do elemental damage without physical damage, but I think it's fine and works as it should. Because it gives you some extra damage anyway (like if you were unable to do physical damage), then it's like a bonus type of thing
