Callbacks to previous games are good, but there should be a point to them, and they should make logical sense for the game they're placed in, not just tossed in for the sake of having a callback.

I can't see myself enjoying Divinity 3 as much if I don't get to play as the Divine for a good chunk of the time and the final battle. I don't mind if I don't get to play the Divine all the time, but if you've read the story for the games, including the novella that preceeded Beyond Divinity, the Divine needs to be a playable character for part of the game.

I think Larian agrees on this front, just because they brought the Divine back from the dead. They didn't have to do that, as far as I knew, he was dead and gone for good until I was surprised by the ending of Ego Draconis. I don't think they would have brought him back if he wasn't going to be a big part of the third game.

seeing as i sunk about 3000-8000 hours into spore and only 40-45 into divinty 2, when i finished the game it felt wrong to start a new character as i had grown so attached to my character, where as in divine divinity, i am thus far not even bothered about my character, im just some dude in the sky, if i had made my character from scratch, and had emotional attachments to other characters (like the dragon knight to rhode) then that would be a different story

I find that complaint of yours about Divine Divinity to be baffling. Yes, the 6 characters have a preset look that you can't change much, but it doesn't affect all that much. It doesn't interfere with your possibilities for roleplaying or character development, you have a lot of flexibility in the way you solve quests. You can choose your responses to NPC's in basically the same way.

Do you really hate the isometric viewpoint THAT MUCH that it's impossible to connect with your character at all?
