So I get to the bottom of the first Dungeon and jam packed in one room are ALL 3 level 13 bosses? I can barely get 1 down to 50% health before I'm dead.

Every other level was level 2 skeletons that couldn't even scratch me. What is with this game???

BF quests monsters and items are randomly distributed on the third levels of the dungeons. Getting 3 bosses in the first dungeon is not likely, but is certainly possible (10% chance, given 3 bosses and 3 locations). Return near the end of the act and you should do better.

The act 1 summoning doll can equip a crossbow, so can be good support for tough fights (if kept out of melee range, since the dolls are not very tough even if you upgrade them). It is available as a quest reward for helping the poisoned imp, on the level after you jump down the pit in the arena; if you missed it, you can get back after you work your way through enough to get access to the citadel.

I managed the fight by concentrating on the Spider first and then jumping through the portal. It took about 5 medium health potions to kill the first boss (Spider) and got progressively easier obviously. 10% chance of this eh? Boy and I lucky

I did cure the Imp but I don't recall that quest reward. I'll have to revisit.

The imp unlocks a hatch when the quest is complete, allowing you to get the summoning doll. A doll's stats are determined by the difficulty level of the game the first time they are summoned (by clicking on the doll in your inventory). If you are playing on easy or action, you can get a slightly stronger doll by switching to tactical before summoning each one (if you switch to hardcore you can not lower the difficulty level again... at least not through the game options).
