Turns out the guy from Germany was right. The only way to keep the game from crashing is to pass the test. I hope that helps someone else. Good luck completing the test, its pretty hard to keep those knuckleheads alive. Despite what the apparition says, you don't need to attack them to fail. You need to keep them from being killed.
