http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/dragoncommander/984/preview.html

Two years ago, we were sitting in a press booth at GamesCom watching Dragons fighting each other. Dragons with Jetpacks. Set in the Divinity universe, this strange and wonderful action/RTS steampunk hybrid seemed like the best idea since sliced bread, and yet little has been seen of it until now. At a recent press event in London, we were delighted to see Divinity: Dragon Commander had been put back on the table, and we were eager to find out just what the hell they’d been up to recently, and what they had done with my jet-pack dragons. Quite a lot, as it turns out.

True or not?

There is also a preview on rpgwatch which is rather positive (given that the site is rpg oriented not rts)

Not. Funding for both games was secured before they went into full production. Of course income from DC could still be invested in D:OS (Larian having mentioned the possibility of doing a kickstarter campaign in order to be able to add more stuff without delaying the release), depending what other projects may be in development, etc.

Those were my thoughts as well. It's not very nice to post thist false quote then; it's minimizing the importance of DC.

It was probably just a misunderstanding. Someone could have said something about using the proceeds from DC to help finish D:OS, and of course in general each game is used (directly or not) to help fund the next one (kind of related blog posts: The route to the very big RPG that will dwarf them all, Seeking the Golden Path).

To clear up the funding idea: when the idea of Dragon Commander was born, we had just finished Flames of Vengeances, and we knew two things:

1. dragon combat in Div2 was not as cool as we thought it could have been
2. we had the tools to make dragon combat cool and wanted to prove it could be done

So initially, the very very first idea we had, was to make some kind of dragon shooter. Think rail-shooter, like old arcade shooters like After Burner. We thought we could do that type of thing in a very short time. Which would indeed have enabled us to use the profit of DC on DOS.

We abandoned that idea after some quick and dirty proof of concept prototypes, so the idea of DC funding DOS was very short-lived wink

Well I am just glad your team is committed to making a great looking game. Honestly, a good rts with rpg elements is hard to come by these days and DC just seems to hit the spot.
