Exactly. Almost nobody is going to look at the new cover art and dismiss the game out of hand because it doesn't have bikini armour featured prominently.
However, there are definitely people who had concerns about the previous cover art, and more than likely some decided it was silly / lame, geared to 12 year old boys and/or sexist, and who didn't stick around to read / watch enough to find out the armour in-game is actually realistic.

They will NOT play a character who wears a lot of armor.

Their are armor choices in games FOR A REASON.. so ALL can find something they like and HELL!! Have you seen screenshots of this game? Its not like you are going to be looking at her butt all day.. I think people just have to find SOMETHING to complain about.. Why can't you just be supportive and happy for this great game coming out by a great company?
Reading your comment, I've gotten an impression that your acquaintances/friends may be interested in playing Atelier series. I haven't played any of them but I always wondered who would play these games: While game critics often criticize them severely, the scores by actual players tell they indeed have some fans somehow, which puzzles me. At least, judging from what I gathered, they appear to be what can be called as Barbie "RPGs" in anime style.

Now back to DOS, considering the gameplay focus is not on fancy dresses, it would be suitable for the artists to settle on not-overly-sexy but well-designed armor for the female protagonist. Yeah, kind of a compromise but I don't think they have resources to make sets of armor just for genuinely cosmetic variations.

finding an obscure game series for an example of a large percentage of female gamers is more than a tad off topic but ok(not to mention the guys who like it similar reasons)... as to the rest.

I think you mostly misunderstand what I posted and why. Even in Divine Divinity in its age has armor options.. you can SEE the difference but its pretty small and far away. DOS is the same. Of course its MUCH clearer and closer but there are still armor choices and even if you dont 100% approve of said armor its not like its up closer and personal like a 3rd person RPG.

@rentserenity I reread and I still dont get from MOST of the posts that it is only about cover art. Those that are.. I still dont get it. Its ART its one part of the game >.<

I might be speaking prematurely because I'm not fully caught up on the thread (reading page 3 comments now) but while I have no object to bikini armour (and even find it amusing) I think Kein is being unreasonably harsh towards Rent and can see Rent perspective.

The one thing that is a bit troubling is the open question does the box art represent the game (in play) art (if buyers are actually making a decision based on the box art). If not (or if so) then since there are people who seem to have a strong opinion (in both direction) on this matter then perhaps (at least in the forum) it should be made clear what the content actually consist (one, the other, both, or optionally as the player sees fit). I do think that both sides of the fence can be hypocritical to a degree (but saying that one person of a particular gender doesn't object is not a fair argument that all people of the same gender feel the same way).
-
Conversely the witcher 2 had a bit of (near) nudity and I do not remember this sort of storm (is this a fair comparison? Probably not).

Anyways cultures (and people) are very different and I think we should just be respectful that there are people out there that might disagree. That doesn't meant he game has to change for them (though some modest amount of flexibility is a good thing) but you don't have to insult or attack people just because they have different views.

If it's about the cover art then fine. TBH I also raised an issue about what the cover art may imply with regards to the story arc. I won't deny also that I'm quite satisfied with the answers to the questions I raised. At least, to me, the boundaries of the issue has been laid out clearly and will hold you to what you posted.

I won't deny also that there are still issues about this whole thread that don't sit well with me. I will instead refrain from elaborating further cause it will possibly cause more harm especially to a thread that's about to settle down. One thing I recognize is that the OP issued a "thank you", not a complaint or a demand. So the thread could have gone the way of "You're Welcome" -- "the end" -- "fin"

My posting history would show that I have been supportive of people voicing their opinions/complaints/suggestions in this forum. This might be the only time I took the other side.

My dear Swen Vincke, I wanted to take but a few brief moments to deliver to you these, my humble words of praise and appreciation to you and your team. To say that you have created something special is a great underestimate, only a few moments ago I finished reading the brief lore of the land of Rivellon, and after refreshing my fond memories of this land of myth and legend, destiny and possibility, I found my self in that place where dreams become reality and each small man can be a hero, and the light of truth never dims. For all of this, and for the unreal honor to once again put on the armor of the Black Dragon, pick up that Sword of Lies and give evil a taste of her own medicine, I can stop not even one moment from saying THANK YOU!
My only regret is I may never have the privilege of meeting you face to face, or even to congratulate your achievement with my own voice. But per chance if you find the time to read these, my words you will bring upon a joyful smile, maybe even be flattered, if that will be so then I to will be quite happy. From me your great fan the young knight Marius Voinescu to you Swen, with only the best wishes.

All of the backers should thanks Swen and the fine team of Larian laugh
