I ask from ignorance, but... if a medium sized dog could be a threat to an adult human, shouldn't wolves be the same?

Now that someone has mentioned the sound wolves made at death in Divine Divinity, I must admit that sometimes gets a bit unpleasant.

Try to find information about how hard it is to spot wolves in countries where there are plenty. (hint: you're only slightly more likely to find wolves as you are dragons). Wolves avoid humans, for good reason.

The thing with wolves is that even though a pack of wolves would have no problem at all taking on a lone human, they just don't. Humans just simply aren't on their menu. This *used* to be different at one point in time where due to all the wars there were human corpses aplenty lying all over the place, around that time wolves got a taste for human meat. Over time they unlearned this again (going extinct in most of the EU kinda tends to do that and as far as I'm aware it's never been an issue elsewhere either) as such the idea of attacking humans just doesn't cross their minds.

Note also that if you live in Europe you likely already have wolves visiting your country on a semi-regular basis (there's packs living in Germany and France and lone wolves have been spotted in Belgium) and within 10 years (and that is a very generous timespan) they will be pretty much all over the EU again (at least the mainland).

The only people that this might bother is idiots that don't manage to protect their pets or livestock. Also most (European) countries with wolves have reimbursement programs for livestock killed by wolves. Of course there's enough idiots that rather kill everything than adapt (which is why foxes are hated so much, learn to protect your goddamn chickens), but eh, the only absolute in the universe is human stupidity.

True story...
This irrational hatred and fear towards wolves, fed by tales and urban legends, is irritating at best.
They're fascinating, and their social structure is much more stable than ours, "civilised" beings.
But the most infuriating thing is that people still believe these so-called sheperds when they accuse wolves for the death of their livestock. So easy, so practical to rely on this ancestral fear, but I bet we wouldn't brandish the so-called wolf threat that often if state insurances were suppressed.
The sad truth is that we are bloodthirsty and that we need to kill living beings from time to time to appease this lust for death...
We better learn from the other species instead of massacring them for futile goals, we're in many ways inferior to them (pretty much about everything involving social interactions anyway)...

Sorry for the digression anyway. Back to topic, I wonder what kind of quests Larian is cooking us, involving animals.
Who know what they might have unexpectedly seen after all, that will be a good way to get some first rate infos.
They could even spy for us, in exchange for food, or distract the crowd while you're silently purloining a thing or two =D

Though I'm sure they'll be in there, the guys at Larian are probably more nuts about dragons than I am wink

I agree with X-tasy in that if you kill one animal the entire species should not become hostile towards you, that seems silly. I think there was some problem like this in Divine Divinity where if you killed too many wolves all dogs became hostile. Then in towns and the farmlands dogs would attack you too, horrible having to kill either.

I feel like I should start a wOlveS order to take on those pesky weresheep!

I fully agreed with all this!!

In DD I accidentally killed a cat when I was trying to kill a rat and all cats now where angry frown ...

On 7th of february 2015 : I start a new adventure in the Divinity world of Original Sin,
it's a Fantastic Freaking Fabulous Funny ... it's my All Time Favorite One !

Yeah, all that schedule stuff for animals hunting animals is great in Skyrim, but it doesn't fit in a Divinity game which doesn't have respawning creatures.

If I were to put it on the priority list, it would be well after the 1M stretch goal and some other things I haven't thought of yet.

I could not care less about whether this game will let you kill virtual wolves or not. People say killing virtual people is okay because they're not real, why should it be different for virtual wolves. Could Larian put in a perk "Friend to All Animals", so normally hostile wolves won't attack, sure, that sounds great.
