I have the beginning of an idea... How about there being a fundraiser in the actual game, like a mayor of a town is raising funds to build a weresheep farm or something like that? The real world fundraiser (which would obviously take place way before the game comes out) could be reflected in the game in various ways dependant on the total amount raised in real life (and in the game, which would be the same). Obviously nothing too demanding since it'd be silly to spend all the money from a fundraiser on the reward for a fundraiser, but I think in an RPG little things can go a long way. How much a success the farm is could be reflected simply through dialogue with no new assets needed to be created - the more successful the farm, the wider reaching its influence is and people will have heard of it far and wide. Even some orc tribes or whatever may be planning a raid on it. Again, just text and maybe the odd item for flavour.
Just the basics of an idea, but I think this kind of incorporation into the finished game, purely through flavour text and maybe a couple of NPCs here and there, would be an appreciated thing for us RPG fans. There could even be a list of the weresheep on the farm somewhere, and their names are all taken from the contributors to the real life fundraiser.
