You can hire henchmen (or use summons) to compliment your main character choices (or compensate for any weaknesses). I assumed having 2 melee warriors in Beyond Divinity would cause a problem with ranged opponents, but several people used that combination and reported that it worked fine for them (I don't recall anyone saying that they tried 2 rangers or two pure mages).
