I can't see any reason why they might seem stupid to anyone.
From what I've read/heard/seen in the videos the final game will have you create your two characters. It doesn't even have to be a man and a woman, they can be of the same gender. There will be customization options for the characters' appearance.
I don't know about body types though. Personally I don't find the in game female model too angry or muscled. Of course it would be nice to have body type customization but there may be engine/time constraints.
Also long hair sometimes have clipping issues with equipment in 3d games so many developers avoid them. They haven't shown any of these things so far, they may do so as the game is closer to release. Remember everything we've seen is from pre-alpha. For those who don't know software production cycle, alpha is a version that barely works and beta is a release canditate that may have a lot of bugs that need to be ironed out before release. So pre-alpha is really an unfinished product. I'm sure when the game is released a lot of things will be much improved, especially after the successful kickstarter campaign.
