I went into it like so:
2 v 2 easy, medium, hard, insane, then 1 v 1 easy, medium, hard. My first loss was at the 1 v 1 insane, because insane AI blatantly cheats :p. No human players yet, due to, uh... personal issues. Also, the game's been updated several times since I started... yesterday. No idea how they changed the AI, if at all.
But I guess if one easily grasps the way an RTS plays, they'll have little trouble adapting to the game. If they're not familiar or confident with RTS game play... I can't say :s.
I would suggest to try to tackle the AI from easy to difficult and stop and practice at the level that you fail.
