Well, they could place a giant laser firing Weresheep on a specific point of the campaign and put that version on the pirate bay.

Depending on what they do, I might actually be forced to get the pirated version just for the sake of laughs (if they implment something really cool)

So long as you also have a legit copy, it shouldn't matter. Like, at all.

I'm also rather curious as to what they did with that feature.

Yeah I've read about that, but there were some who never encountered this, despite getting it illegally. Which is why I'd say it appareantly hasn't been very effective

A secret surprise? And that one only for pirates? Wouldn't that be disappointing for the fans to miss out some fun? Or is there some way to activate the pirate mode? Type "ARRRR" often enough?

I hope after one hour they just loop the video of "you're a pirate" from Lazytown.

The scorpion thing was quite unstable. There was a drm layer over another drm layer, with GEG heavily involved + insane registry checks. I own Steam copy and YET I got that scorpion. I though it was a bug until saw all these locked threads on steam forum. Of course full restarted helped but I've had a bad after-taste.
