I.E., is it better for Larian if I buy Dragon Commander on Steam, or GOG.com? I know the Vault is best, but I really don't like using a lot of different services for my games.

Far as I know, Steam takes a bigger share than GOG, but don't quote me on it.

GOG did list Dragon Commander first, by quite awhile. That might not have anything to do with which is better for Larian, though. Other than saying a developer's own shop is best, I don't recall any comments saying one digital distribution channel is better or worse than another.

Steam would give you more options for online play (Steamworks lobby system) and is 10% off if you own D2:DC on Steam. On the other hand, GOG is DRM free and the pre-order includes a couple bonus games.

I bought it on Steam and I hope it will have Steam Trading Cards

Other than that I dont think there's gonna be much difference
