"The number of the beast" is a classic in music history.
It's as simple as that.

And that OLD remark...

A lot of youngsters don't realize that without the example of those "older" bands a lot of the things of today wouldn't even exist.
I'm not that old too. It's very interesting to check out stuff from the 70's and even 60's.

Ah yes. Us youngsters don't know how good we got it.

Seriously though, I know what you mean Seth. I just prefer my modern stuff. IM are just like the Stones, the band members are getting ancient. They still playing?
Like Ozzy, I reckon they should've quit while they were ahead....

i wonder what elvis would be like now if he hadn't died.... he'd probably break his knees trying to dance.
or jimi hendrix.... playing guitar with his dentures?
sometimes, maybe it's a good thing to die before you get old... preserve your legend.

What I mean is that there are amazing songs.
Old ones give the youth a hard time becouse "everything was better back then" and "when they ware young..."
And the other way around.
But there's great stuff from all times.
The last 50 years or so anyway.

Just doesn't really bother me that much. 90's and onward is my era. I see cool new bands all the time. Just can't remember their names.....
Metallica-First 6 albums were some of the best metal ever done. Now they're just p***ing about.

Ah
But that's part of what I mean.
Often good bands go ... silly... well, just plain stupid, when the big public gets to know them.
Money- and famehunger.
Once they get known originality and quality starts to fade and is replaced by typical popular sounds.

I've also heard a lot of early stuff bands have done when they truly sucked. Every band has an epoch, so to speak.

Yes.
And I don't say everything is bad now.
Just... there's way much more of this yippie yaya stuff.
Two lines of text in a song(?) that don't mean a thing, over and over.
Or a lot of lines about sex and violence that don't mean a thing too, but are choosen becouse it sells good.
Music isn't about emotions anymore. It's not even about good music anymore. It's about selling a product.

What once was art is now a multimedia consumption product.

I partially agree. There is still some good stuff out there though. You just have to look hard. Manufactured bands have always existed. Take a look at the glam rock period, the 80's. Basically chart music is done by good little bands and their good little megacorp record companies. That's why I never watch MTv now, the money has taken over.
MTv's life was like that of an average band. At first it was ok and totally new, which meant it was cool. Then with shows like beavis and butthead and the rock hour etc. it became very cool. Most of my college days were spent watching that. Now, I turn it on and want to vomit instantly. What the fudge is R&B about?? That's when you say "I think I gotta get a new vibe" so I do.

Best thing is to go see local concerts. Then one day you can say "hey, I saw those guys when they were unknown/sucked/were cool" and everyone will pound your head in for being a showoff.
