Quick update:
Both issues have been solved (at least up until now =D ) by deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents\Larian Studios\Dragon Commander folder and by setting the Texture Quality to Medium (all other settings enabled and on High).
If anyone else is having this issue, try this. It might help.
