I do plan on learning the tool kit and if I'm good enough try and make some mods or even remake a game in the engine.
I was wondering, if I (and other people of course) remake a game like beyond divinity , can we actually release it or not(if we actually finish it)? Since beyond divinity is still being sold.
thanks ^^

hmmmm really ambitious idea, form a personnal point of view I am more interesting in making a completely new game (based on Divinity's universe of course), but I really encourage you in your huge project !!

I don't know officially or anything, but I'm sure you could release it (as long as you don't try to make money off it obviously). I would say it would be unlikely to impact sales negatively, a lot of people who play custom mods on Original Sin are likely to have Beyond Divinity already and if not and you enjoyed someone's recreation of it you might be encouraged to try out the original and buy it.

It's a different engine anyway so it will not be the same no matter how polished you make it. Remakes never fully replace the original either, for example I played Ocarina of Time on the 3DS recently and as beautiful as it was I would still play through the original version ahead of it.

Also as the combat here will be turn-based instead of real time it will play differently.

I guess relatively similarly, there were remakes of games using the Neverwinter Nights toolkit before and they were not taken down, there's one of Diablo that takes the sound directly from the original. Though I would assume Blizzard just don't know about it. It's also not great.

I'm sure Larian wouldn't mind somebody put the effort in to remake on of their games in their own engine, it would show how much you loved it! Also they seem to encourage the idea of remaking Divine Divinity with the toolset too.

So good luck, it sounds quite ambitious.

Im pretty sure they wont mind. One kickstarter update they even made a small part of DivDiv and were hoping/interested to see if fans would remake it entirely.

If it is a standard EULA for an editor, I would assume that a remake of Beyond Divinity or even Divine Divinity is perfectly alright. Examples: Baldur's Gate remake for Neverwinter Nights and Starcraft I remake for Starcraft II. They've been doing it years ago like the people who worked on a remake of Warcraft II in Warcraft III. Note that usually, creations with an editor (distributed with a game) gives the publisher/game studio rights to your work.

I don't know what type of EULA Larian will come up with for the editor. One would assume that it is similar with the likes of Bethesda and Blizzard.

If you'll come up with all the resources on your own it should be alright. Now, if we're talking about using resources from Beyond Divinity like sound files, cutscenes, icons, voice files, I'm not sure.
