If you talked to Maxos in the start, he would have outright told you that the goal was to get rid of the demon technology. Were you not paying attention?
Spoiler alert: the Demon provided the technology for the purposes of making massive destructive wars.
The main plot is certainly weak and not that inspired, but it's serviceable enough. It is not something worth mutilating a camel in a frothing rage over.
