I was able to play the game in Developer mode for approximately 1 hour and then the game just suddenly crashed and will not load again. When trying to start the game, I get the launcher asking if I want Normal Mode or Developer Mode as well as other options but neither of the game modes will work. Instead of loading, I hear the audio start for a second and then my screen goes black and stutters for a few seconds as if I had changed my resolution. I then get a Windows error stating that Divinity II has stopped working and must be closed.
I have tried all of the options shown in various other threads reporting similar issues, such as
http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=459657#Post459657 and the suggestions to reinstall the game, reinstall NVIDIA PhysX, verify the local cache through Steam and other options but nothing has allowed the game to run.
I am on Windows 8 and have an i7-2770 3.4GHz processor, 16 GB of RAM and dual NVIDIA GTX 560 graphics cards. I know it is not a hardware issue, especially because I was playing the game for an hour on the highest graphics settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: A friend was able to get the game working for me. Loaded the game in Compatibility for Windows Xp SP3 mode and it loaded perfectly. The game somehow changed graphics settings to be in 800x600 instead of 1280x1024. Changed it back to normal and restarted the game. Everything works as intended now.
