How long does is take to start a new game for you? I'm waiting nearly 10 minutes until now since I clicked on "new game" and it is still loading. Is that normal?

Nope, but you could have run into my problem. Is it a small rectangular welcome window only? If you look hard along the bottom of the window, you'll see the top of three buttons. Press the one to the left, I solved that by trial and error, as I couldn't read the buttons.

No, that's not my problem. I did also get this windows with buttons at the buttom I could not see, but I just hit "Enter" and could start the game. When the game was started, I hit the "new game" button and that is where I got stuck. I see a fullscreen window with label "loading" in the right lower corner and titled with Divinity Original Sin, so it seems to be the normal loading screen. But loading seems to never end for me.

I see. For me the loading took like nothing, and I have a semi-old rig, so that sounds like a game-stopper, sadly.

Thanks for the answer. Does anyone have the same problem? Any ideas what I could try to do? Is there some kind of a debug log where I could see possible errors?

Btw... How can a change the topic of this thread to state clearly, that this is an error and not a too long loading screen? Or do I have to post my problem in a new thread?

I have this problem but i can heard some birds after 5 minutes but nothing happen after that and i need to stop the game.

I think I have fixed my problem. I disabled my firewall completely. Now I am able to go to the character creation screen. Only allowing the app and the supporttool to access the internet in my firewall (Windows 7 Firewall control) was not enough in my case, i had to disable it completely (set to mode "ErlaubeAlle" which means "allow all")).
