So I buy Dragon Commander and I'm all excited to play. I boot it up, and it looks fantastic. Opening sequence plays, talk to the generals, no issues at all! Then, I get pulled away from my PC. Nothing between when I get pulled away and when I sit back down changes to my PC as I'm the only user. I go to boot up dragon commander and the graphics are lagging awful, it's eating 3x the memory it was when I booted it up before and it's actually graphically unplayable.

I lowered the graphics as low as they can go, rebooted the game to apply changes as it says to do, and it lagged just the same as it did on ultra, which is what it auto-detected my system to run it at.
I ran the file integrity verification.
I reinstalled the game.
I rebooted the PC.
I closed out of every nonessential process including explorer.

Now, it runs fine on my friends' computers, so I don't know what could have happened or changed, but I haven't gotten past talking to the two generals and that is not enough gameplay to justify a purchase. I really want to play, and I know it's worked on my computer before!

Help!

You can try browsing to the '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Dragon Commander' folder and deleting or moving either the graphicSettings.lsx file or everything to get the game to recreate it the next time it is started. If the configuration files were not removed when you uninstalled the game (presumably the config files would be deleted and the saves kept), then there could be a difference between the game autodetecting settings on startup and getting them from the graphicSettings.lsx file.

Did you try running the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity Dragon Commander\Shipping\DCApp.exe' executable file, rather than through the Steam client?

If you don't have an anti-virus program or firewall, etc, running I'm not sure what else could make a difference from the first time the game was run...

Has there been a drop in performance with any other games, etc?

There has been no drop in performance with any other game, and the reason I don't understand it is because it ran perfectly fine around 70+fps on ultra, which is normal for me to experience. It's the running at 4+fps on Very Low that isn't normal. I've attempted to run the game from the executable file and it ran the same. I've also disabled my antivirus and any other application that could be causing the commotion, but to no avail.

Have you tried resetting the 3d driver settings from your graphics card control panel ?
Settings like overriding Anti-Aliasing can adversely affect performance.

I would recommend resetting them to default if you have changed several settings.

Other then that, resetting the graphics settings like Raze suggested will fix any settings issues.
