I am insulted...
At least that's what the guy said when I wanted to pay him 15 gold for his item that he was asking 15 gold for.
I guess I just don't get it (not to be surprised since I only picked up the game today) and hope somebody can explain to me why it is that if I'm in a trade window and the asking price of something is 15 gold and I offer either 15 gold or I offer an item plus some gold to make up to 15 gold why it is that the seller is Insulted when he should be taking the gold or the item+gold and sell the item.
If the NPC is simply going to be insulted by every possible trade with me due to his not liking me, then the trade diamond should simply be grayed out and no trade possible until he likes me enough to allow it.
Not sure if this is simply a bug or if it's a game mechanic that I simply don't understand.
Thanks for any assistance on this.

I think this is a bug which, however, I have not seen before. Whom exactly are you trying to trade with? Maybe I can reproduce this bug...

The reason that's happening I think, is because the NPC's disposition towards you somehow got glitched into negative numbers, and so they don't want to talk until you bribe them. It's not working very well that way at the moment. It's a bug.

I was trying to trade with the grand puba (wizard) that greets me at the gates of the first city you come to.

Like right there at the harbour gates, the first meeting? That's really strange.

I have now tried to reproduce the bug. The trade goes fine for me if the money + items I offer have a greater value than the items I want to buy. Arhu says "I am insulted" only if I offer too little money. Maybe try reloading the game?

Yes I need to reload/ start over anyway since I inadvertently tried stealing from the accounting room and now the guys inside are in perpetual fight mode with me. Not sure if it matters but it bothers me so I'll try a new game and see if he allows me to trade this time. But as mentioned, seems a bug.

Seems to me that Bartering might be the problem, Bartering seems to lower the price visually but not actually - making you think you have to pay less than you actually need to. I know I got the same bug when trying to buy something after getting Bartering anyway, haven't tested this out. Would be cool to know if bartering/treasure finding from luck affects the whole party or just the one character? Same goes for charisma and so on. Transparency would be nice - Bartering lowers the price of item X how much? And their disposition has affected the price x amount? Some people are against this kind of info, I am definitely for it!

The problem occurs even without bartering. I had the exact same problem the first time I tried to trade with the spell vendor on the market place. She would tell me every offer I made insulted her and increase prices every time, even if I offered more than what she asked for. I never took barter, in fact I never take barter.
Stabbey is pointing out something worth looking into, as I realized after trying so many times to deal with the said vendor that her attitude towards me was -50. I couldn't be sure the attitude ajustment wasn't triggered by so many "insulting offers", I hadn't checked before. I hadn't talked to her prior to trading, and most certainly never even thought of stealing from her.
The issue kind of solved itself after awhile. I mostly gave up on trading with her, went on to do quests and came back some hours later in the playthrough thinking maybe if I talked to her with Madora she's be more willing to trade. She cared little about dealing with lackeys, but her attitude towards me had gone back up to -10 and I was able to trade normally with her from that point.

Well I tried to play my save further as I wanted to see if the wizard being so angry at me would bufu the plot but alas, my sense of direction in Divinity games has always been awful so I finally gave up trying to find the wizard and started over.
This time around the Wizard was more than happy to trade with me, so it must be as mentioned above something wrong with that game mechanic that Larian should look into if they've not already.
I didn't do anything different in the new game from the old game... Picked up rain scroll, picked up various shells and allowed the drunk guards to escort me to the first fight zone, finished fight, picked up loot and then went to the towns front door to meet the wizard.
Oh and in my opinion, what should happen is that the prices should be increased to accomodate the anger that the NPC feels towards the player so that unless the anger is so bottomed out (like -50) then the prices will simply reflect that but trades would still go through unless as said, the anger towards the player is bottomed out at like -50 or -100 or whatever is the lowest possible amount.
