It may just be me but i cant seem to assign partymembers to control to the second player.
Still.. managed to play about 2 hours of co-op with a guy (it crashed once due to us doing multiple big things at the same time (starting a quest at a questgiver while at the same time stealking stuff from the questgivcers house proccing his aggresive mode) and didnt crash at a second co-op session.. so not bad at all
