I would be more than happy for there just to be the tilt in there (I should make it clear at this point that I meant tilt in my OP rather than pan).

If the reasons are as you say then giving up the ability to tilt the camera by 90 degrees (flat horizontal to full vertical) then that should alleviate most of the view restrictions, especially inside buildings, without having to worry about us seeing the "back" wall.


On a side note, I have not see much about the editor but surely, when you create levels you will be able to move the camera 360 degrees so you can make accurate level designs, it would seem strange if all of the objects could essentially only be viewed from 2 sides.
