hmmmmm the map seems to be a quite small (of course there is at least the black forest dungeon. That was, for me the only disapointment about D2 : the map was too small IMO
What do you think?!

Well, looking at the trailer for D:OS, it seems like there are a hell of a lot of areas that we haven't explored yet. Like a snow place, a burning fire place, silverglen (which was in kickstarter updates), and some other places that we saw in the kickstarter updates.

Haleseen, lemme give you a clue about the fire area (I don't say this WILL happen, just it is possible) this fire place could be an existing place after a specific event, just like the first area of D2

for Rod, yeah of course but you know, I'd like more town, more "wild world exploration", that was the only drawback of D2 (understand frustration^^) the environment was, IMO a bit too small, I dreamed about big different lands, a long journey and so on. if you refer to the map below, it quite small in fact

That's clearly just a collection of print outs of in game maps of the initial town + surrounding areas*.

You reach level ~8-9** by the end of the alpha. Going by the current mechanics of skill builds, game pacing and spending, I'd imagine level 30~35 would be an endgame char.

Also:
In the alpha you can already have the ice / fire tile set in play. Upgrade your homestead, and there's a choice of decor.

*I'm also highly suspicious of it as a real-world designing scenario. Let's just say, it's not how I'd plan a RPG.
** You can achieve level 9 with the +10% xp perk

I did not reach the limits of the alpha as I can never load my save (I know that the save are not compatible between != version of the alpha but I cannot load a save from the same version ^^) but yeah my concern is that I travelled around 40% of the area of the map shown in my screen

I think Larian was talking about level 20 as the level cap.

If you can't load saves you should report that to Larian, they thought they squashed all those bugs.

Only 20? But there's like... 11 levels in a single dungeon, that's got to be at least a few levels right there.

But! If there was a level cap, I think that we'd need to have an ability to redistribute our skills and attributes on the fly, so we could have different builds for our characters for different areas.

Otherwise, if you end up doing something really shitty, and you hit the level cap, your basically done with the game then, because you might not be able to move forward in the story because of shitty decision making, making the game's battles impossible.

I didn't say 20 was set in stone. They're still changing basic gameplay mechanics. They might slow the pace of leveling or increase the level cap, or some third option I can't think of.

Yes, it may be possible to end up screwing yourself through bad decisions. That's also part of free to do whatever you want. No one ever said freedom would be easy.

Just a quick question: What are the advantages of a level cap? As far as I know, DD had no level cap, but at the end the character level was always around 45-48 since the enemies did not respawn. So, since DOS also has no respawns, I do not understand what an explicit level cap should bring. There is a fixed amount of XPs in the game (from enemies and quests) so that this is an implicit condition on the highest level attainable by the characters.

I don't believe there is an explicit cap. Level 20 is just what Larian was aiming for in terms of character progression, in order to make the effects of each level (stat point, etc) more significant.

@Stabbey already report for sure, but now we play co-op with a friend whose save system works

Larian said that it was about 50h playing, so if we add the hudge forest dungeon and considering that the alpha provides +-15h of gameplay, my assumptions about the map could be true :s

I'm still hopeful they go for 50 small levels instead of 20 large levels smile

Judging by the assets in the Alpha, the following might be an indicative list of areas:
Cyseal (Overland)
- Tunnel (where you meet Arhu's creation)
- Black Cove
Homestead (Shelter Plane)

Sankima Pass
Farmlands
Lakes
- Cave
Hollow Marshes
Luculla Forest
- Mines
Thorn Lair
- Cave I
- Cave II
- Tomb
- Cave
- Monk Grave I
- Monk Grave II
- Monk Grave III
The Prison Garden of Stone King
Aleroth (whether this is included as a Demo only or is part of the game)

So when Larian had previously estimated that Cyseal (including bits that are fenced off) is ~1/4 of the world map, that seems very plausible.

The data and names that are left over in there are not really saying anything. Some are test levels, both for design, code and art, so don't read too much into those names plz smile
