Pretty easy so yeah it's possible. Just a matter of getting used to the system and a little thought put into it, they're not designing the game to screw you over on every attempt you make until you're a big twitching mess. I'm assuming or at least hoping that the difficulty in the alpha currently is the easiest they have because of the balancing and all, and that they will bump it up quite a bit for release, but as it stands right now I firmly believe it's possible for someone new to jump into the game and beat it without a game over, there will probably be deaths, but it's manageable if you can read and do basic maths.
